Kyle Hardy Invades Dog Hollow For Super Late Model Victory
4 min readSTRONGSTOWN, PA (August 18, 2017) – Winchester, VA driver Kyle Hardy invaded Dog Hollow Speedway on Friday and came away with the feature win in the Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Models. Mahaffey’s Nick Erskine won two features in the 358 Semi Lates. Erskine won the make up feature from April 28 as well as the schedule feature for the night. Jack Theys destroyed his car last week in the DM Craig Fabrication & Welding Service 4 Cylinders but came back this week in a brand new car to claim the victory. Duke Davidson picked up his first win of the season in the AMSOIL Pure Stocks while Clate Copeman for the third time in the Lias Tire CARS Crate Late Models.
Michael Lake was the initial leader in the Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Model feature. Lake looked fast leading the first seven laps. Kyle Hardy started third but quickly took second on the opening lap. Hardy stayed glued to Lake’s bumper and challenged him. Hardy was able to take the number one spot away on lap eight and started to pull away. Two cautions closed the field but it wasn’t enough as Hardy took an easy win. Lake was second over Billy Eash, Dave Blazavich, Rick Singleton, Quintin Wyandt, Josh Jacoby, Bernie Whiteford, Dwayne Taneyhill and Randy Smithley. Lake and Eash were the heat race winners.
Heat winner Clate Copeman, of Greensburg, led all 20-laps to score his third victory in the Lias Tire CARS Crate Late Model feature. Copeman drove a smooth and steady race holding off a four car train to beat Joe Moyer, Corey Neal, Mike Laughard, Greg Beach, Colin Casale and Tim Storm.
Curtis Lias led 14 laps of the 358 Semi Late Feature and looked like he would pick up his first win. Lias battled with two-time winner Mike Shoemaker until the final lap. Going in to turn two Lias pushed up just enough to open the door for Shoemaker. The duo drag raced down the back stretch and made slight contact in turn three that saw Lias get sideways. He gathered it up but the top three cars went past and were three wide coming to the checker. Nick Erskine, who was third on the white flag lap, came across the line first over Shoemaker, Jarid Ivory, Joe Brawley and Jeff Fochler. Ivory won the heat.
In the April 28th make up feature for the 358 Semi Lates it was all Nick Erskine. Erskine led all 15 laps to take his first win in the class. Curtis Lias came home second followed by Dan Ferry, Jr., Jeff Fochler and Carrisa Fedesco.
From zero to hero is the best way to describe Jack Theys run in the DM Craig Fabrication & Welding Service 4 Cylinder feature. Last week Theys took a nasty flip and destroyed his car. A new car was built in just six days and Theys won a battle with last weeks winner Zack Wissinger to park in victory lane. Wissinger was second ahead of John Costa, Mike Phillipson, Chuck Dizzle, Ricky Weaver, Dylan Young, Brady Miller, Larry Weltz and Cody Young. Claiming heat wins were Noah Swank, Wissinger and Theys.
The AMSOIL Pure Stocks saw Duke Davidson pull off his first win in nearly a year. Davidson wasn’t to be denied leading all the way for the victory. Amber Mills, Mike Benton, Alex Boozel, Mike Ball, Ron Benton, Dave Rasmussen and Fred Casagni completed the field. Mills was the heat race winner.
The Pure Stock Mechanics race saw Brandon Lansberry taking the win in Duke Davidson’s machine.
