Sport Mods Take Center Stage At I-77 Speedway This Saturday

(Ripley West Virginia), On the heels of a rainout this past weekend and the track’s very successful Jim Dunn Memorial Qualifier special on Saturday April 30th, the I-77 Speedway looks to pick the action up a notch this weekend as the track hosts an $800 to win ‘AMRA Sport Mod Rally’ this coming Saturday April 13th. The event which will showcase the young and quickly growing AMRA Sport Mod class will also feature all of the tracks other regular classes, which is sure to give fans plenty of racing excitement throughout the event.

The track which is under the leadership of first year promoter Todd Jones, has seen some great racing action thus far along with some packed houses and general excitement around the Ripley West Virginia thus far in 2017. The competition and car quality on hand during each event has been strong and the I-77 Speedway looks to build upon that as they race their way into the month of May. This week’s Sport Mod Rally will allow the Sport Mod class to take the center stage and race for one of the larger purses offer yet for the young class. While second generation racer James Dennis has proven tough to beat thus far, by claiming all of the track’s Sport Mod feature wins, he will surely have his work cut out for him this weekend as drivers such as Reed Bishop, Tommy Powell and numerous other I-77 regulars will be gunning to end Dennis’s dominance and take home the cash.

Aside from the AMRA Sport Mod Rally, the track will also feature AMRA Late Model racing which has drawn some excellent names and produced some exciting action thus far as 2016 AMRA Late Model National Champion Tyler Carpenter will be looking to make it 2 in a row, while names such as Chris Garnes, the Dohm’s, Zach Hill and more are expected to be on hand in hopes to taking home a late spring feature victory. On the AMRA Modified side, Kenny Johnson took home the last checkered flag of the season at I-77, but a few different faces are expected to be in the mix in hopes of scoring a win, while the same can be said for the very competitive Steel Block Late Model division which should see another great field of cars.

The evening of racing will kick off with gates opening at 3 PM and will continue with the evenings drivers meeting at 6:30. The Mini Wedges will hit the track at 6:45, while Hot Laps will begin at 7 and racing is slated to start at 8. General admission remains at $15, while kids 10 & under are free with pits also remaining at $30.
