Ohio Valley To Host King Championship Saturday
4 min readWith the month of October soon upon us, the Ohio Valley Speedway is set to host the 2nd Annual Gibby’s Dirt Track Racing Nation Championship event this Saturday September 24th. The popular event which returns after a successful inaugural event in 2015, will see many of the regions top Late Models, Modifieds, 4 Cylinders and Mini Wedges competitors invade the popular 3/8th mile oval just minutes outside of Parkersburg West Virginia. The 2016 edition of the Gibby’s Championship event will see AMRA sanctioned Late Model and Modified racing for the first time and is expected to serve as a major showdown event as the AMRA enters it’s final weeks of National competition. Saturday’s event will not only draw many of the region’s top talents, but also pay some of the richest purses of 2016 across the Ohio Valley region, as the show will include a $5,000 to win, $500 to start AMRA Late Model 40 lap special, plus a $2.000 to win, $200 to start AMRA Modified shootout.
The event which is promoted by Michael Gibson of Gibby’s DTRN LLC will not only serve as a late September special and season finale for the Ohio Valley Speedway, but also serve as the crown jewel event for the Gibby’s DTRN points season. After a stout 2016 campaign, Parkersburg West Virginia’s current AMRA Late Model points leader Tyler Carpenter has clinched the 2016 Gibby’s Late Model Championship for the second consecutive season, but Carpenter will have no chance to take it easy come Saturday night, as the driver of the #28 machine will have to do battle with some of the regions top talents for the $5,000 pay day. The sure to be stout field of drivers expected to be on hand include defending event winner Freddie Carpenter, Doug Drown, Devin Moran, Eddie Carrier Jr, Tim Dohm along with numerous others. However, those drivers hoping to take home some big money, will have to battle a pesky field of strong weekly competitors at ‘The Valley’ including the likes of Ronnie Mayle, Jeff Burdette, Chris Carpenter, Dan Morrison, Ed Shuman and more for a real showdown on Saturday night! If the racing during Saturday’s event is anything like the Jim Dunn Memorial which was held at ‘The Valley’ this past June, fans are sure to see another great showcase event to close out the 2016 season at the track.
While the championship may be clinched on the Late Model side of things, the Gibby’s points battle continues going into the $2,000 to win AMRA Modified special, as Jacob Hawkins controls his own destiny as he must finish at least 13th to secure the championship IF Jesse Wisecarver were to win the event. However, Hawkins who currently leads the AMRA Modified National points standings will need to keep his #13 2Brothers Motorsports Modified up front as he is locked into a much tighter AMRA points battle between he and 2016 Ohio Valley Speedway track champion Tyler Evans while Nick Corbitt who is no stranger to Ohio Valley sits within striking distance in 3rd. With the points battles aside, fans can expect the long standing excitement within the AMRA Modifieds to be on showcase this weekend, as Saturday’s AMRA Modified 30 Lap special is sure to provide plenty of racing excitement along with an interesting mix of talent from all across the region much like the 2015 running of the event did, which saw Kevin Morehouse score the win and best a field of local and numerous regional favorites.
As previously noted, also included in the event will be a $1,000 to win 4-Cylinder special plus a $500 to win Mini Wedge spectacular!
