3 min read(Middlebourne West Virginia) After a week off for the Tyler County Fair, the Hometown Racing Association will swing the gates open once again this Saturday Night, August 13th at the Tyler County Speedway. A full night of action is slated as the regular season winds down at the regions fastest ¼ mile ‘Bullring’.
Throughout the Ohio Valley, you will find that there is arguably no name or family more synonymous with the sport of auto racing than that of the famed Dickson racing family. This Saturday night August 13th, the Dickson’s long celebrated racing history will add yet another chapter to the families mark upon the sport, as the Tyler County Speedway will host the 12th Annual ‘Dickson Classic’ which will feature a headlining $1,200 to win AMRA Modified Invitational race. The Saturday night special event located at the track known as “The Bullring” is expected to draw an excellent field of drivers to do battle in the hopes of adding their names to the impressive list of past winners including Kenny Johnson, Paul Wilmoth and Rick Aukland along with others regional and local favorites.
The ‘Dickson Classic’ event which was originally introduced in 2004, serves as a tribute event to the lives of both Paul and Ellenora Dickson for their long dedication to the sport of stock car racing in the Ohio Valley which included Paul’s successful racing tenure prior to a career ending crash in the mid 1960’s. While the event will serve as a fun tribute for all involved, the on track racing excitement should leave fans with plenty of excitement as drivers begin to prep for the $2,000 “White Lightin’ 30” which will be held as apart of the 48th Annual ‘Hillbilly 100’ weekend during Labor Day weekend. In a season that has seen the likes of Dj Cline, Jake Hawkins, Lance Elson and numerous others put on some excellent action at “The Bullring” this year’s Dickson classic is sure to see the racing heat up in the latter part of the summer months. Also racing as apart of the evening will be the always exciting AMRA Late Models along with the tracks regular supporting classes including a $500 4-Cylinder special.
The event will kick off with gates opening at 4:30 on Saturday afternoon and will see racing begin at 6:30 at the venue located just 3 miles past Middlebourne West Virginia. The track is located at 1 Boreman School Road, Middlebourne West Virginia which is also home to the Tyler County Fairgrounds and sits just 3 miles past the Tyler County county seat of Middlebourne.
ABOUT THE DICKSONS: While it has been years since the Dickson family patriarchs competed on the small stock car tracks of the Ohio Valley including the long gone Torch Speedway and the venues still operating such as the Ohio Valley Speedway and Legendary Hilltop Speedway even to the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the family continues to make waves as Paul’s son Mark and his son Travis will be battling against numerous other regional Modified standouts for the $1,200 payday this Saturday night. While Mark and Travis both compete regularly in the AMRA Modified division, the family remains yet even more involved today in the sport, as Chris Dickson (son of Tom Dickson) owner of Dickson Racing Shocks will see numerous teams compete in the event using the shocks he builds in Williamstown West Virginia, while Brad Dickson competes as the driver for the family owned ‘Dickson and Son’ racing team which fields an AMRA Sport Mod.
