(Waverly, Ohio) Following a two day break from racing action, the STARS Buckeye Late Model Dirt Week is set to invade the Atomic Speedway on Wednesday July 27th for a $3,000 to win STARS Late Model mid-week special at the popular 3/8th mile oval. The event which will mark the first STARS sanctioned event of 2016 at the Waverly Ohio track, is expected to serve as a crucial turning point in the Buckeye Late Model Dirt Week tour as a stout field of drivers and teams are expected to continue their pursuit of a Buckeye Late Model Dirt Week championship, as they battle at the nations fastest 3/8th mile track on Wednesday night. With the series top point standings contenders nearly under a blanket, the contingent of local and regional favorites are expected to fight for every point as the event will mark this Wednesday night event mid-way point for the tour and begin the final series of consecutive races which will conclude on Saturday night as the tour makes a return trip to Atomic for a $5,000 Dirt Week finale.
Following Tuesdays unfortunate rainout of the makeup date at the Moler Raceway Park, the series will converge on Atomic with an intense points battle that has not be altered since last competing on Sunday at the Millstream Speedway in Findlay Ohio. Currently, Parkersburg West Virginia native Tyler Carpenter has a slight 15 point lead over consistent and very competitive Zack Dohm with the remainder of the top 5 closely in pursuit of the title as Sundays winner Doug Drown holds the 3rd position with Duane Chamberlain in 4th and Rod Conley in 5th. While Carpenter does have the lead and has shown little sign of weakness in the opening three races, the sweeping high banks of Atomic Speedway may yield the greatest challenge for the driver who is known for dominating the small bullrings of the Ohio Valley region. However, if this past Sundays race at Millstream showed both fans and the competition anything, it is that Carpenter should be able to adapt and compete against drivers such as Conley and Chamberlain who are very familiar with Atomic Speedway and are very capable of pulling off a much needed win on Wednesday night, while Doug Drown is expected to come into the event with a great wave of momentum as the Late Model standout will competing on the heels of the $4,000 STARS win this past Sunday.
Along with the intense excitement and incredible competition that is expected in the STARS Late Models, Wednesdays racing program will also feature the always exciting AMRA Modifieds, which will be in action competing in a $1,200 to win $150 to start special. The Modifieds are known for delivering tremendous on track racing action at the Atomic Speedway and are sure to give fans and even greater reason to pack the stands and catch a rare mid-week special featuring two great classes. Wednesdays racing program will kick off with pit gates swinging open at 2 PM followed by General Admission gates opening at 4 and Hot Laps set to begin at 7. Pit passes will remain at the respectable price of $30 while adult general admission will be $18 for this show.
