After what was a very busy and exciting opening weekend of racing for the STARS Buckeye Late Model Dirt Week, the tour completed its first 3 race swing across the buckeye state of 2016 on Sunday night with an exciting shootout at the Millstream Speedway in Findlay Ohio. The event which would be won by veteran Doug Drown, would mark the 3rd completed event on the 10 day tour which started on Thursday July 21st at the Legendary Hilltop Speedway in Marietta Ohio. Following the opening event, the tour converged on the Moler Raceway Park in Williamsburg Ohio on Friday night, however persistent rain showers would force the postponement of the event, which will now be made up on Tuesday July 26th. Following the rainout, the tour then moved on to the Wayne County Speedway in Orrville Ohio for a Saturday night special event which would be won by Late Model veteran Jeff Babcock. The tour made its final stop on the 4 day swing at the previously noted Millstream Speedway in Findlay, where the #240 of Doug Drown best a stout field of cars for his first STARS win of 2016.
With three complete racing programs already in the books, the intensity on the track has been nothing short of exciting as the three complete shows have seen three different winners while the top two point contenders Zack Dohm and Tyler Carpenter currently set only 15 points apart. Carpenter who claimed the win at Legendary Hilltop in the tour opener, has remained consistent even challenging for the lead during the closing portions of Sundays show at Millstream. Zack Dohm however, has remained strong all tour long and has shown consistency and incredible determination as the West Virginia native charged his way from deep in the field to a top 5 finish during Sundays show at Millstream Speedway. With the rest of the top 5 in series points also currently under a blanket, the intensity is sure to continue and as the series picks back up on Tuesday at the Moler Raceway Park, the points battle could take a wild change of events as the action on the close quartered oval in Williamsburg Ohio is known to create its fair share of exciting moments which could make or break some of the tours top contenders.
As teams take a short break on Monday to prepare for the final stretch of races, the action is sure to pick right back up in a big way as the tour will host the previously noted makeup event at the Moler Raceway Park on Tuesday night. Following the stop at Moler, the action will continue as the tour makes its first visit of 2016 to the Atomic Speedway for a $3,000 to win Wednesday night special before then moving to the Hilltop Speedway in Millersburg Ohio for a $3,000 to win showdown. The final two events of the series are sure to come with plenty of excitement as the tour moves to the Brushcreek Motorsports Complex in Peebles Ohio for a $3,000 Friday night special which will serve as the prelude event to the series finale as the tour makes the short trek to the Atomic Speedway on Saturday July 30th. . The series finale at Atomic Speedway will allow for competitors to make their return visit to the fast 3/8th mile gem located in Waverly Ohio for a $5,000 to win Buckeye Late Model Dirt Week series finale with both the $5,000 show and series title up for grabs.
