WAYNESFIELD, Ohio (6/25/16) – Points battles continued Saturday night at Waynesfield Raceway Park in Waynesfield, Ohio as all five weekly classes returned for a night of racing action. With neighboring tracks offering a special program of racing, drivers from all over the Midwest flocked to the 1/3rd mile for a new racing experience. Some drivers traveled across the border from Canada to be in attendance Saturday night.

The Satellite Connections Non Wing Sprint Cars were led to green by the 63D of Jim Dues and the 19 of Matt Cooley. Cooley took the early lead into turn one and led the opening the lap. Bradford, Ohio’s Luke Hall made his way into the second spot early in the race from his outside row four starting spot. As Hall made it into the second spot, the caution flag flew for Austin Troyer. On the restart, Hall found himself with an opportunity to take the lead. Hall did just that moving into the lead. Matt Westfall and Steve Little followed suit moving into the second and third spots respectively. As the race moved on, Hall built up a big lead over Westfall and Little. That lead continued until Hall took the checkered flag. Matt Wesfall came home second. Steve Irwin made a late race surge through the field to finish third. Hall and Westfall picked up the heat race victories.

The Performance Powder Coating AMSA Mini Sprint 20 lap A-main was brought to green by the 81H of Anthony Haas and the 65 of Chris Bounds. Bounds won the drag race into turn one and came away with the lead early on in the feature. The field was brought to a stop for the only red flag of the night. Taylor Cox went upside down exiting turn two. Cox climbed out from behind the wheel of the 7X uninjured. Ty Tilton got a great jump on the following restart. Tilton’s 42 surged through the field moving into the top spot near the halfway point. The next battle developed just outside the top five. Ryan Barr came out on the winning end of the battle moving into the top five late in the race. Tilton came away with the win. Chris Bounds finished in second with Kobe Allison finishing in third. Chris Bounds and Anthony Haas picked up the heat race wins.

The Quest Federal Credit Union UMP Modifieds had a great field of cars on hand. A total of 32 competitors signed in for a chance to make it into the 20 car A-main. The feature was led to green by the 20K of Bill Keeler and the 55S of Zach Schroeder. Turn two was the problem corner for the Modifieds as multiple cars fell victim to an accident in the turn. The first came on the opening lap when Josh Morton, Scott Gerdeman, Weasel Philipot, and Reed Hurst got together. Jim Post also had an issue in turn two on the second attempt to get the race underway. Once racing did go green, Schroeder took the early lead with Keeler, Hess, and Gingerich looking in. Jeff Koz through his hat in the ring for a brief moment in time until he was out shadowed by Hess and Keeler. With just two laps to go, Schroeder was battling three wide with Hess and Keeler. A late race caution restacked the field giving the win to Zach Schroeder. Brad Hess finished second with Bill Keeler crossing the line in third. Current point lead Josh Scott picked up a heat race win along with Jeff Koz, Brian Post, and Ernie Gingerich. Jim Post picked up the B-main victory.

The Block Insurance Tough Trucks lined up the first four rows of the A-main in a King of the Hill format. Mike Hicks claimed the throne to start on the pole beating out Gabe Twining who started on the outside. Hicks took the lead into turn one at the drop of the green flag leaving Twining in the second spot. Hicks began to pull away from the field and approach lap traffic. Just when everyone thought the race had been won early, Hicks got off the racing surface exiting turn two. Hicks went on an off-road exertion through the infield allowing Twining to close the gap. With Twining right on the backend, Hicks transitioned to defense. Family member Chris Hicks moved into the third spot as the yellow flag waved for the C4 of Charles Weigt. Chris Hicks managed to jump into the second spot off the restart. Mike Hicks pulled away and came away with the victory. Chris Hicks came home second with Bill Keeler claiming third. The Hicks duo came into the weekend one and two in the standings. Erik Wolleson, Chris Hicks, Mike Hicks, and Mike Grigsby picked up the heat race victories.

The Indian Lake Outfitter Compacts put on a show with a handful of Waynesfield rookies in the field. Justin Durflinger and Indiana native Alyssa Clark led the field to the opening green flag. Durflinger took the early lead. In the past few years, Durflinger has had such good luck at Waynesfield that many thought he would walk away with the win easily. That was far from the case as Dalton Smith made a run for the lead. Smith split lap traffic regardless of the turn while maintaining a constant battle on Durflinger. David Yoder, who started on the outside of row 3, through his hat into the mix making it a three-way battle for the lead. The trio went three wide with 4 laps to go just avoiding contact with lap traffic exiting turn three. As the white flag went in the air, Smith took the lead from Durflinger and the win. Just Durflinger finished in second with David Yoder taking a close third. Dalton Smith’s victory marked his first ever race at the famous 1/3rd mile at the age of 16. David Yoder and Dalton Smith picked up the heat wins.
