Atomic Speedway’s Inaugural Buckeye Nationals This Weekend

WAYCROSS, GA (May 9, 2016) – One of the most highly-anticipated events of the season is on tap this weekend. Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, OH will present the inaugural “Buckeye Nationals” on Friday-Saturday, May 13th-14th.

The hair-raising action of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will kick off on Friday, May 13th with Miller Welders Time Trials, plus six 12-lap Heat Races. The top (3) finishers in each heat race are locked into the $50,000-to-win, Buckeye Nationals on Saturday night. The balance of the field will move on to the LOLMDS B-Mains on Saturday night. Friday night racing action will also include Time Trials and Heat Races for the Renegades of Dirt Open Wheel Modifieds.

On Saturday night, a driver autograph session will take place in the vendor midway area at 5:00pm. Afterwards, consolation events for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will be held, followed by the “Ten-Not-In” Non-Qualifier Race. The Ten-Not-In line-up will be set by: the top-two drivers from each B-Main that did not transfer; the two fastest qualifiers that did not transfer; the top-two drivers from Atomic Speedway points that did not transfer; and the top-two drivers from Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series points that did not transfer. The winner of the 20-lap, Ten-Not-In has the choice of keeping their $3,000 winnings, or forfeiting their earnings to start last in the main event. The 75-lap, $50,000-to-win, Buckeye Nationals main event will follow the Ten-Not-In on Saturday night. The Renegades of Dirt Open Wheel Modifieds will cap off the weekend action with their $5,000-to-win main event.

Defending champion, Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Georgia leads two-time champion, Scott Bloomquist in the current Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series standings. Jared Landers is third, followed by Darrell Lanigan. Brandon Sheppard completes the top five in series standings. Sixth through twelfth are: Tim McCreadie, Dennis Erb Jr., Jimmy Owens, Don O’Neal, Earl Pearson Jr., Steve Francis, and Colton Flinner. Flinner leads the Lucas Oil Products Rookie of the Year – Presented by Hot Rod Processing.
