Raceway 7 Set To Open May 6
3 min readConneaut, OH (May 3, 2016): Raceway 7 will welcome fans and racers to the 2016 season this coming Friday, May 6, 2016 with a full evening of racing including heats and features for all five classes led by the Evergreen Lake Park Campground CARS Crate Late Models.
2015 champion Chad Wright will have his hands full defending his championship in the Evergreen Lake Park Campground CARS Crate Late Models against the likes of Dennis Lunger, Kyle Zimmerman, Dave Lyon, Dave Airgood, Matt Latta and the rest of the field. The top drivers in the class will be gunning for the checkers every week.
Percy McDonald will be back to defend his Bonnell’s Collision Center E-Mod championship, the second of his career. 2015 runner-up Ken Zimmer along with Dan McDonald, Brent Rhebergen, and Chuck Steinle Jr are all expected to return to attempt to wrest away the top honors for the season. All are veterans and past race winner so Percy’s reign at the top may well be in jeopardy. Former Economods champion Josh Ferry is moving up into the ranks of the full E-Mods and will be in the hunt for the win and championship each and every week.
Shawn Fawcett ruled the ranks of the Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stocks, wrapping up the 2015 title with a huge 163 point edge over runner-up Ed Bolyard, himself a former champion. Fawcett could have sat out two weeks of racing and still won the title. Beside Bolyard, former champion Chris Withers, Chris Hochschild, and Rob Bates will challenge for the champion’s laurels.
The Bonnell’s Auto Sales Economods were paced in 2015 by the veteran Rich Prosser, who is expected to defend his title in 2016. Prosser’s romp wasn’t easy with Josh Ferry always challenging. With Ferry moving up that task will fall to Eric Reinwald who improved every week throughout the 2015 season and is expected to be at the front on a regular basis in ’16. Brad Blackshear collected a couple feature wins last season and will be in contention again. The veteran Chuck Steinle Sr, now in his seventies, is going to race again this summer and will always be a challenge for the checkers.
Brad Cole won his second Specialty Products Mini-Stock season championship last summer and will likely be a force in the championship hunt yet again. Former champion Bud Sergeff was in the chase all season trying to win his second championship but Cole prevailed in the battle that went to the final week of the season. Jason Easler, third in the standings last season, has built a new mount and will be looking to improve his standing. Youngsters Hoyt Mihalak and Justin Boardman will be in the field to make sure the veterans don’t have too easy of a time getting to the checkers.
