STARS Ready To Race For Charlie Floyd At Southern Ohio Friday

(Middlebourne, WV) The 2016 AMRA STARS Late Model season is off and running. The return of the iconic series will write yet another chapter tomorrow night at the Southern Ohio Speedway in Wheelersburg, OH. Although it is with great excitement the STARS invade the hallowed mile it is also met with mixed emotions to the area which still morns the loss of speedway competitor Charlie Floyd.

The nation’s dirt racing community continues to come together to help aid the Floyd family in their time of need and that will be no different when the STARS visit for the 1st Annual Charlie Floyd Benefit Race on April 29th. Area friends and family along with speedway officials are excited to honor their friend with a Friday night of racing action featuring the Short Track Auto Racing Series first visit since July of 1985. Only Charlie Swartz and Jackie Boggs have wins on the tour at Southern Ohio Speedway, both races in ’85.

In addition to the anticipated great racing action there will be several events on Friday to raise money for Charlies family. The Porter Township Fire Department, the fire department that Charlie served on, will be at the track on Friday doing several different fundraising activities. Sponsorships are being sold for $99 (those that want to donate more can give more). Sponsorships can be purchased by businesses, individuals, race teams, etc. The sponsorship will include their name, website link, and phone number posted on the event page on our website and an individual post on our Facebook page along with multiple announcements over the PA on Friday night. 100% of proceeds from the sponsorships will go to Charlies family. The track will also be selling raffle tickets for two five year season pit passes to the track. The total value of this prize is $3,500. Tony and Anessa Sparling who will also have their vending smoker at the track for food items and Jimmy and Mary Fritz will have their Sprint Car simulators at the track. All proceeds from the following will go to Charlies family.

The race night activities will feature a $2,099 to win top prize for the AMRA STAR Late Models. Shinston, West Virginia’s Robbie Scott parked his new XR1 Rocket to victory lane during the STARS opener at Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, West Virginia two weeks ago. Freddie Carpenter, Kyle Thomas, Zack Dohm, and Corey Conley are remaining top five in series points to date.

Additioally, the exciting AMRA Modifieds, Fastrak Crate Late Models, Sport Mods, and Enduros will also be on the racing card. Gates will open at 4:00 pm Friday with hot laps at 7:15 pm. General admission is $15 (ages 17 and up), $5 (ages 13-16), $2 (ages 7-12), and FREE (ages 6 and under). Pit passes are $30 (ages 13 and up), $20 (ages 7-12), and FREE (ages 6 and under). Benefit Raffle

The Porter Township Fire Department, the fire department that Charlie served on, will be at the track conducting several fundraising efforts. The first will be a 50/50 that they will be conducting. All proceeds from the 50/50 will go to Charlies family.

The fire department will also be conducting a raffle at the track. They will be selling raffle tickets in the community this week and at the track on Friday. Winners will be drawn on Friday before the AMRA STARS Late Model feature. Tickets will be sold for $10 a piece. All proceeds goes to Charlies family.
