(Kerens, W.V. 08-21-15) Another full hillside saw Season Championship night presented by Leggett Refrigeration at the Elkins Raceway for the 2015 season.
In the Jenkins Ford Super Late Models, Cody Hardesty held a 4 point advantage over Tim Senic going into the night. After winning his heat, Hardesty upped the cushion to 7. Also taking a heat victory was Charlie George, who jumped to the point at the outset on the third try at green. Hardesty was second and Senic was running in the fifth slot. As the race stayed green with George still leading, Hardesty second, Steve Wilmoth third, Senic fourth and Billy Holbert fifth. The yellow appeared on lap 16, and another on lap 20. The latter set up a five circuit dash. George driving the Charlie’s Auto Sale / Rich Mountain Surveying #98 easily added his second win on the year. Hardesty piloting his #1 Touchdown City / Iron Horse Logging #53, would claim his second consecutive Super Late Model Championship. Wilmoth was third. Senic crossed in fourth, and Holbert finished fifth.
Daniel Hill had a comfortable lead of 104 markers over Chad Green Friday night. After wrecking his car at Tyler County last week, Hill climbed into Jerry Haseleu’s ‪#‎RJ1‬ for the night. After a false start, the Budweiser FASTRAK feature got under way. After winning his heat race, Hill with his Larry’s Western Shop / P D C Energy #8 setting damaged at home, secured the class title. But Hill wasn’t ready to leave it at that. Hill grabbed the lead as the race stayed green until lap 13. Then the yellow waved again on go rounds 15 and 17. Hill driving the Oleskas Auto Body / Jack’s Recycling #RJ1, recorded his fourth feature win. Kris Southern, Derrick Shaw, Billy Beachler, and Tyler Stutler completed the top five.
The Performance Modifieds had Brent Trimble with a 52 point margin over Dave Defibaugh going into Friday night. Brent won his heat as Dave finished third . That made the cushion, 54. When the feature began it became a battle of the 22’s. James Nelson and Mike Murphy. While that was going on, Dylan Shafer and Trimble made contact sending Trimble into the outside wall on the front chute. A flat tire, broken shock and no brakes were the result for Trimble. He (Trimble) was able to come back after changing the tire. Meanwhile at the front the Murphy’s Auto Sales / Boyer Motel ‪#‎22M‬ of Murphy claimed his first checkerboard of the season. Robert Smith, Defibaugh, Nelson and Dustin Isner were second through fifth. With his seventh place finish the H & R Block / B B & T Auto crushers ‪#‎1B‬ of Trimble added his third Modified crown. (2012, 2013, 2015)
Jamie Keene in her Stewart’s Sanitation / Ryan’s Auto Repair #56, basically had to start her heat to win the West Virginia Pools Street Stock Championship. With her second place finish she did just that. In the feature not content to cruise, Keene grabbed the front spot and set sail. Second in points, John Tallman Jr began to reel in Keene. By lap four he was second. On the next circuit, Tallman peeked under Keene but there was nothing there. On lap six he tried it again with no luck. Then on lap seven he moved to the outside and got by Keene for the lead and put his Pennington Motorsports / John Tallman Sr. #37 into victory circle for the fourth time this year. Keene, Chad Judy, Josh Rovello, and Ryan Gum filled out the top five.
In the feature only for the Miller’s Used Cars Mod Lites, John Cogar Sr. in the Hillbilly Truck Repair / Vandergrift Auto Repair #26 would lead flag to flag enroute to his third checkers. Zak Kimbrew finished second. Going into the evening Logan Hitt had a 37 point lead on Mitch Ward, when Ward pulled out on the restart of lap five, Hitt in the Jenkins Ford / Odyssey Rehabilitation #2* claimed his fourth straight Championship. (2012, 2013 Mini Wedge, 2014, 2015 Mod Lite) Dean Ward, and Jeff Fornash rounded out the top five.
Hands down the best race of the night for the win and Championship was in the B C T Construction Mini Mod A Group. Defending track Champion Paije Bragg came into the night 2 points behind Garrett Jones. When the green flag dropped Bragg would set the pace with Jones stuck to her bumper. Lap after lap Bragg pulled Jones around the 3/8 mile oval. With the white flag waving, Jones made his move as he pulled out from behind Bragg entering turn three. The front duo were side by side exiting turn four racing to the stripe. At the line Jones in the J J K Mineral Co., Appalachian Mineral Title Co. #23, nipped Bragg at the line for the win and Championship. Luke Hyre, Haley Mahoney and Mitch Thomas followed them across the line.
In the B C T Construction Mini Mods B Group the Extreme Plastics Plus / Shalewater Solutions #99 of Presley Wilt not only added her sixth first place trophy to the mantle. She now needs room for the Class trophy. George Casto III, Abbie Hudler – Pennington, Landon Marple and Blake Runyon completed the top five.
Come on out and end the season SATURDAY night at the Elkins Raceway! The Jenkins Ford Super Late Models will battle for $2,000 to win. The Budweiser FASTRAK Late Models will square off for $1,000 to win. With racing in the Performance Motors Modifieds with $600 to win. West Virginia Pools Street Stocks for $500 to win.
