(Middlebourne, WV) As the midway point of the 2015 season approaches, the list of different feature winners at the Bullring continues to grow. The Tyler County Speedway is seeing unprecedented competition in all classes, as no one driver has been able to establish dominance in any division. Track championships are up for grabs in all classes as quality racers in every class are still looking weekly for their season first win at the track that many fans and journalists call “one of the raciest in the nation”. Car counts have also topped the century mark at every event, as racers and fans alike have praised the ultra-smooth and multi-grooved surface. General Admission ticket prices remain the lowest in the region at a very reasonable $10 on regular racing nights and provide an affordable night of racing excitement in a family atmosphere. Located on the Tyler County fairgrounds, picnic shelters, playgrounds, on site camping with hook ups and access to the adjacent Middle Island Creek make it an ideal weekend getaway. With plenty of quality shows remaining on the schedule, both the summer temperatures and on track action are sure to heat up. You don’t want to miss any of the action, but in case you have, this is a review of the 2015 season’s winners.
The J & R Excavating Super Late Models presented by Midcap Land and Timber have entertained drivers from 14 different states thus far, but Mountain state natives have taken home the top prize in each time. Derek Doll was the season opener winner for the third year in a row, Jared Hawkins scored the win in the ‘Topless 50’ and Josh Richards swept the twin World of Outlaws mains in the ‘Jackpot 100’ weekend. Additionally, Colton Burdette won his first ever Tyler County feature main and Paul Wilmoth Jr has been the only repeat winner, his second being a barn burner that saw the top 4 finishers crossing the finish line 4 wide and within 0.787 seconds of Wilmoth on ‘Pack the Track’ night.
No driver has been able to repeat in the ultra-competitive ‘2 Brothers Motorsports’ Modified division. Jake Hawkins, Taylor Cook, Jeff Fornash and ‘Let it Ride 55’ winner Tanner Wilson have scored the ‘Renegades of Dirt’ series wins, with J.E. Stalder, Brent Trimble, John Burdette and Vic Vandergrift joining the impressive listing of class feature winners. 11 different states have been represented in the class thus far, with entries received as far away as New Mexico for the upcoming MEGA 100 weekend coming up July 9th – 11th.
Shawn Jett tallied the season’s first two features in the ‘Peoples Bank’ FASTRAK Late Models before Kyle Thomas took a turn at the podium. Since then, Daniel Hill has rang up a pair of victories and most recently Jamie McCloud got his career first victory in the nationally known series.
The Bullring is the founding home of the Hot Mod division, the region’s first and only true economy modified division. Opening night winner Darren Glover and ‘Tammy Clegg Memorial’ winner Travis Thomas each have 3 feature wins to their credit, as participant numbers grow weekly in the effort to join their exclusive club.
In the ‘Chris Metz State Farm Insurance’ presented by ‘Cedar Run Farms’ Modlites, opening night winner Tyler Riggs sets the standard with 3 wins, with Mitch Ward, Brandon Fluharty, Alan Knepper and Gabe Phillips each breaking into the winner’s column in the always competitive class.
The ‘Lipps Towing’ 4 cylinders always put on a crowd pleasing show, and only Wesley Tennant has been able to lead the class to the pay window more than once. His 2 victories are the high number for the 4 cylinders with Dennis Adkins, Jason Frazier, April Tennant and Donnie Wamsley all getting single wins to their credit.
