Princeton May 30th Recap

5 min read

It was a beautiful Saturday with a nice breeze which made for a perfect night of racing at Princeton Speedway. It was time for our annual kids’ bike races along with the drivers’ bike races. A lot of kids showed up and ran hard in all age groups with all appearing to have a lot of fun! Thanks for coming kids! Then after that four drivers squared off to take a whole lap around the track on a bike. Michael Moore simply dominated the show after official Tyler Collins held him up and made him start behind everyone else. Other drivers participating were Brandon Adkins, Max Price, and Shania Bradford. We would like to thank you drivers for participating in this event and having some fun with the kids!

The night’s racing program was headed by the AMRA Open Wheel Modifieds who signed in seven cars to do battle on the 4/10ths mile track. Mike Duncan set a blistering pace for the fast time in qualifying and also took the heat race win. To start the feature there was a caution as Ricky Lilly dropped some debris on the speedway. On the restart Mike Duncan jumped out to the lead and did not look like he was showing any signs of being caught. Lilly would spin a couple times each time letting the field bunch back up. On the second restart Eric Feuchtenberger ran Mike Duncan with all he had before slipping in turn three and four and falling back into the back giving Duncan a huge lead again. With about 6 laps together the back suddenly started catching Duncan who had clearly slowed down. Then the unthinkable happened with Duncan pulling slowly to the top of turn 2 bringing out the caution. He had lost power steering and was done for the night. On the restart Feuchtenberger would not be denied as he took the lead and never looked back taking his first career AMRA Open Wheel Modified win. Jason Cochran came home 2nd with Ricky Lilly rebounding after the spins and coming home 3rd. Rounding out the top five were Terry Parsons and Mike Duncan.

The FASTRAK Pro Late Models signed in twelve cars for the nights racing action. Ashley Brewster flew to a fast time in qualifying. The heat race victories went to Ashley Brewster and Henry Hornsby III. The feature set up to be a good one, but was mired by cautions. Hornsby again looked to be the class of the field and did not appear he was going to be denied. Similar to what we saw Chris Meadows do last week in the Pro Late Models Eddie Hambrick did this week starting deep in the back and working his way forward. Hambrick had worked his way from seventh to second and was running Hornsby down before a caution with four laps to go. Hornsby would take the win after the restart followed by Hambrick in 2nd. Aaron Barley who fought to get around Brewster all night finally did and came home third followed by Brewster in fourth. Rounding out the top five was David Collins Sr. who started way back in the tenth position. Clearly it was a racy track. Also, Adam Lilly sustained a wrist injury in a single car incident. We ask that you remember him in your thoughts and prayers in his time of healing.

The Outlaw Modifieds saw five cars sign in to put on a show for the fans. Kevin Woodall took the heat race win. Freddy Mooney jumped out to the early lead in the feature event. He appeared to be on his way to victory as it appeared no one was going to catch him. Then disaster struck! Going into turn three and four he lost a rear end. This bunched the field up for what looked like was going to be a good race. Woodall took the lead, but was battling hard with Doug Feuchtenberger and David Ferreira. At one point they were three wide coming down the straight away with Feuchtenberger in the lead, but at that point Woodall decided he would not be denied and took the lead back coming off turn two. Woodall would take the win followed by Feuchtenberger and Ferreira. Rounding out the top five were Mooney and Jessy Roberts who had to leave the track for three spins.

The Street Stock division had seven strong cars show up for the night’s action. Hank Stover took heat one. In what is turning out to be quiet a rivalry at the track this season Stover took the early lead in the street stock race with Brandon Adkins stalking him every lap in second. Stover appeared it was his race to win, but coming to the checker flag catching a lap car Adkins got Stover in just the right place and picked up his first feature street stock win with Stover finishing 0.1119 behind him in second. Rounding out the top five were Derek McMillion, Brandon Belcher, and George Pierce.

The Outlaw Mini’s continue to be one of the biggest classes every week. This week nine cars signed in. Jeremy Finley would win heat one with heat two going to Ed Horton. Jeremy Finley and Tyler Meadows would take off in the feature one, two to do battle as they have all year long to this point when both cars are right. Finely would lead every lap, but it wasn’t from lack of effort from Meadows. He tried the high side, low side, and middle to get around Finley, but could never find the line to do it. Finley would take the win putting him tied with Meadows yet again on the top of the points. Meadows would bring home second followed by Ed Horton, Kevin Davidson, and Tim Black.

The U-Cars had three cars sign in again for racing action. This time a car came all the way fro Sissonville, WV to support the class. They would run a feature only. The U-Cars “Dominater” Buckshot Ellis took the win. Followed by Collin Holmes and James Dunn. This was a caution free feature event!

The Mini-Wedges had six cars sign in to do battle. Logan Brant would take the win after a late race restart over Garrett Jones in second. Blake Basham brought home third followed by Max Price, Logan Collins, and Degan Williams.

Princeton Speedway would like to thank all the fans, drivers, and teams who came out to support last night’s event! We would also like to thank all of our sponsors who make racing possible each and every week! Don’t forget this coming week Super Late return for $2,000 to win in the City National Bank Vault Buster night!
