WHEELERSBURG, OH-The Southern Ohio Speedway will roar back to life in what promises to be a bigger and better 2015 season. The track is proud to announce that it will host two preseason Test N’ Tunes on Saturday, March 21st and 28th and will officially begin the 2015 season with the “Opening Night” races on Friday, April 3rd.

When the green flag drops on April 3rd, the “Southern Ohio Championship Series” will begin. The Southern Ohio Championship Series will make up the majority of the races during the 2015 season. This was put together to bring a “super show” for the fans and create opportunities for race teams of all budgets to take home good purse money.

The April 3rd racing card, as well as all races for the Southern Ohio Championship Series, will pay Late Models $2,000 to win and $250 to start. The track has taken the $3,000 to win purse ran last year and redistributed the money to pay stronger throughout the field. Modifieds will pay $750 to win and $140 to start. The always exciting and popular Sport Mod division will also make up the racing card.

A new, unique twist has also been added to the racing format for Southern Ohio Championship Series races that will create more racing for the fans and great opportunities for race teams. Following the nights Modified feature, the Late Model division will take back to the track for a 10 lap consolation feature that will pay $400 to win. Only drivers who have not won a feature event at SOS will be eligible to compete in a consolation feature. Once a driver wins a consolation feature, they will not be eligible to compete in future consolation races. (This rule may be adjusted to late in the season if fields become too small to allow consolation feature winners ONLY). Modifieds will also have an 8 lap consolation feature that will pay $200 to win with the same rules in effect.

These consolation races were put in place to give more racers the opportunity to visit victory lane and give the race fans another exciting event on the racing card. With a good sum of money on the line as well as the pride that comes with visiting victory lane, these races should be some of the most exciting on the night. A Late Model driver who starts the A-Main and wins the consolation feature is guaranteed $650 while a Modified driver who starts the A-Main and wins the consolation feature is guaranteed $340.

During the offseason, track officials took a huge step in helping track prep efforts by purchasing a newer grader. The grader will help track officials significantly in what will be a main goal in 2015 to make the racing surface as easy on equipment as possible. During the last couple races of 2014, racers strongly complimented the racing surface on those night’s and can expect that to be the norm in 2015.

SOS officials are continuing to work on several different things to make the 2015 season bigger and better than before. Among the things in the works include a huge focus on making a better fan experience at the track, new ways for the track to become more involved with the community, more ways to partner with local businesses, 2015 rules packages for each class, and finishing up the 2015 schedule. This comes on top of improvements that have already been put in place such as new lighting on the backstretch (put in place the last race of 2014), new equipment that includes a grader, pump to load the water truck, and upgrades to the current water track, an email newsletter, a new website, and new SOS road signs.
