Wayne County Blow Out Wins To Markham Jacobs, Strickler, Daugherty, Hensel, Stafford, Jones & Heyder

Over 170 racing vehicles signed in to participate in the 2nd annual Dirt Blow out sponsored by DJ’s Directional Sevices at NAPA Wayne County Speedway Saturday night. The Renegades of Dirt Modifieds made their second appearance of the season to the 3/8 mile dirt track and for the second time this year, Mooresville NC driver Kyle Strickler went home with the win. Grabbing the lead from the outside front row at the drop of the green flag, the High Side Race Cars, Donaldson Grinding, and Ti Lube #8s would lead all the way in the 30 lap main. Fast Qualifier Rich Michael Jr. challenged early on but could not stay with Strickler. Only two caution flags would fly during therace and both came just as the leaders were getting ready to start lapping cars which really helped Strickler who had a clear track on both restarts. Jesse Wisecarver ran third but had to hold off a late run by Taylor Cook as Rick Aukland took fifth. Michael Jr., Strickler and Anthony Kinkade topped the heats as Craig Wolford was the last chance winner.
A multi car mishap just past the flagstand at the start of the Lias Tire Late Model feature would eliminate DJ Cline, Rick Mardis, Jerry Aber and last chance winner Rocky Owens from the field. On the restart, it was a back and forth battle between the front row starters of Rick Armstrong and Ashland’s Ryan Markham for the first three laps with quick timer Charlie Duncan right behind. Armstrong bobbled in turn two on lap seven and that allowed both Duncan and JR Gentry to slip past. Gentry would slow the action down after bouncing off the guardrail in turn two on lap 11, ending his night. With the green back out, Duncan would make a strong run on Track Champion Markham but the H & T Demolition, Accu Shock and Fultz Fabrication #5m would stave off the challenge and pull away for his 7th win this season. Keith Berner, who is retiring from racing after 40 years, made a run on Duncan during the last two laps but finished third. Aussie David Doherty started 14th and motored up to take 4th as Brad Malcuit took fifth. Heat winners were Shane McLoughlin, Berner and Markham.
A pair of #9’s would bring the Fisher Performance Sprints to the green flag with Fredricksburg’s Dean Jacobs taking the point from Jimmy Colvin. Track Champ Brad Haudenschild would take second from Colvin on lap 8 and chased down Jacobs. Haudenschild would slide past Jacobs during lap 18 but before the lap was completed, the caution was thrown for a spinning Shawn Hubler. From that point on, the Harbach Electronics, Hochstetler Truck and Auto Repair, and Mac & Bob’s Towing of Jacobs held off Haudenschild on the restart of the last lap following a caution flag to pick up his 1st win at NAPA WCS. Despite doing a 360 spin and dropping back to ninth on lap two, Danny Mumaw roared back and passed fast qualifier Andrew Palker on the last lap for third. Mitch Harble filled out the top five. Mumaw and Jamie Myers scored the heat wins.
Mansfield’s Bob Daugherty and Nick Smith dueled for the lead in opening laps of the Thrifty Muffler Super Stock feature but after several cautions early in the race, the last half of the feature was caution free and Daugherty and his Char’s Cars, Metz Machine Shop, and KA Recovery #21d just kept expanding his lead on the way to his 4th win of the season. Smith was able to hold off Gary Hensel Jr. in the closing laps for second as Don Baney and fast qualifier and Track Champion Larry Baldwin rounded out the top five. Baldwin, Smith and Mitch Caskey collected the heat wind as Don Rutt claimed the last chance win.
Doug Hensel set the pace for the first eight circuits of the WQKT Mini Stock feature but the mechanical bug bit him and Track Champ Brad Hensel took over and went on to post his ninth win aboard the Wooster based, Sportsmans Bar and DJ’s Directional Services #28. Gary Hensel Jr and Jason St. John went tooth and nail for second and third, finishing in that order. Ron Hamlin and Jerry Adkins finished fourth and fifth. Adkins and Gary Hensel Jr. led the way in the heats.
Cousin’s Zoe Stafford and Braxton Wilson topped the NAPA Mini Wedge heat races and then Stafford would lead the first 6 laps of the feature but slower wedge’s allowed Wilson to take the point on the next lap but he was slowed by slower wedges and Stafford was able to get back by on lap eight and the Coshocton youngster put the Flint Run Valley Farms, Coshocton Trucking and Dobby’s Hauling #31 in victory lane. Wilson finished second as Track Champion Robbie Ledger took third followed by Matthew Moore and Jolene Voshel. After their feature, the top ten were awarded their season long points award trophy’s with Billy Dawson second followed by Moore, Caitlin Johnson, Tanner McLoughlin, Cody Stillion, Voshel, Lucas Thomas, Wilson and Stafford.
Rod Jones and his #820 machine led flag to flag to claim the Mod Lite feature as Doug Stanley moved past Brian Stuhldreher on lap seven for second. Joe Burkhead finished fourth with Brandon Shaw collecting fifth. Stuhldreher and Jones won the heat races.
Galena’s Rolly Heyder, driving the Jack Maxton Chevrolet #10, made the pass on Tyler Bertran at the right time, which was the halfway mark because the skies let loose with rain and although it was a quick shower, before the track was back to raceable, another shower hit, ending the night. Travis Winterringer, Jerry Gardner and Tom Garlick were top five finishers. Bertran was the heat winner.
Results for the Box Stock and Stock Go Karts that ran on the Wedge track, were unavailable.
