Portsmouth Raceway Park welcomed its largest car count of the season Saturday evening, as over 130 race teams were present on a night dedicated to The Lemley Motorsports “Mod Squad Spectacular”.

Of those race teams, 47 of them were modifieds. Thirty-four were Late Models. Nearly 40 were Sport Mods, and the rest were Bombers. In total, PRP fans witnessed 21 different races counting all the heats, B-Mains, and A-Mains.

Feature winners included R.J. Conley (Giovanni’s Pizza Late Models), Shon Flanary (R.W. Rental and Supplies Modifieds), Mitchell Fields (Sport Mods), and Jeremie Bretz (M & M Inflatables Bombers).

The Lemley Motorsports “Mod Squad Spectacular” was initially scheduled for August 2nd, but rain forced it to be pushed back to this past Saturday. The wait proved worthwhile as fans were treated to four exciting Modified Heats, two extremely competitive B-Mains, and a feature which came right down to the wire.

After multiple tries, Flanary managed to record his first-ever PRP win. The Church Hill, TN native certainly picked a good race to take. His five-hour drive to Portsmouth proved well worth the trip as he led every single circuit of the 30-lap Lemley Motorsports “Mod Squad Spectacular”.

Despite Flanary leading from flag to flag, the race certainly didn’t lack competitiveness. Jake Hawkins caught up to Flanary’s rear bumper late and was nipping on his heals over the final laps. Jackie Boggs placed third. Shawn Holliday was fourth. The Wesbanco Fast Qualifier Josh Rice rounded out the top 5. Sixth through 10th were Brian Skaggs, Todd Robinson, Jeremy Hayes, Jesse Hartman, and Keith Smith.

The Late Model Division was dominated by Wheelersburg’s R.J. Conley. He set quick time, came from dead last to win the six-car dash, and led every lap of the 25-lap Late Model A-Main.

Conley was never seriously challenged for the lead in the feature. He won by a straightaway over his nearest competition and masterfully maneuvered his way through lapped traffic. For Conley, it was his second PRP win of 2014.

Jackson’s Jason Montgomery posted a very solid second-place finish. Former Limited Late Model and Bomber track champ Robbie Lewis of Tollesboro, KY had one of his best-ever showings in a Late Model placing third. Wheelersburg veteran Delmas Conley finished third, and current points leader Ben Adkins of West Portsmouth closed out the top 5. Derek Fisher, Rod Conley, Audie Swartz, Joe King, and Mike Meyers rounded out the top 10.

Mitchel Fields captured the very first Sport Mod A-Main ever ran at PRP. Mark Hall, Eric Dennison, Emily Jordan, Steve Noble, Tony Whitt, Sr., Randy Cline, Mike Newton, Austin McGlone, and Weston Crosby made up the rest of the top 10.

Maysville, KY’s Jeremie Bretz proved triumphant in the Bombers. The former track champ got by Lucasville’s Jason Spillman with three laps remaining. Bretz made the pass up high and never looked back. Spillman held on for second. Wayne Hughes, Rick Butler, and Conard Newman finished out the top 5. Bo McCarty, Brian Sammons, Joseph McClain, Mike Drake, and Matthew McClain made up the remainder of the top 10.

PRP will return to action this coming Saturday featuring Late Models, Modifieds, Limited Lates, and Bombers. It will be the final points race of the 2014 season and the last race before The Dirt Track World Championship October 16th, 17th, and 18th.
