“The Flying Ace” Sweeps Late Models And Modifieds At Hilltop

Although the points season has official ended for Hilltop Speedway, a few races remain. With the sun shining bright and 106 drivers entered in the pits, one could not ask for a better summer night at the races.

Rolling on to the track first was the modifieds with a field of 23. Setting fast time was “The Hitman” Jess Hartman with a 15.905. Heat race winners were “Rockin” Robin Duston, “Stormin” Norman Aronhalt, and “The General” George Lee, with DJ Cline picking up the dash win. In the last chance race it was Rory Reed with the win.

Bringing the field down the back stretch to the green, it was “The Flying Ace” Corey Conley jumping out front over Cline. Undeterred, Cline would make multiple attempts at the top spot. However, as the laps passed, Conley would solidify his lead over the rest of the field and claim the win. Second went to DJ Cline, third to Robin Duston, fourth to Jess Hartman and fifth to George Lee.

Next out was the Holmes Tire Late Models with a field of 24. Fast qualifier for the night was Devin Moran with a 14.511 Picking up heat race wins was “Chargin” Charlie Duncan, Michael Davis, and Blaine Aber, with Steve Prince claiming the dash. The last chance winner was “The General” George Lee.

With Prince setting the pace to the green, it was Corey Conley who would take over the top spot. While Conley maintained the lead, Moran was working his way through the field up to second. As they worked through lap traffic, Moran began to close the gap on Conley. However, a caution would fly. With the green back out, it was “The Flying Ace” who again would take the lead, going on to pick up the feature win. Devin Moran, Michael Davis, Rick Bond and Steve Prince would round out the top five.

With a field of twenty, Gary Hensel Jr., Jason St. John, and Michael Rose picked up heat race wins in the mini stock division. With the field set, it was Hensel bringing them to the start. Working his way from his sixth place starting postion, it was Brett Mellor who would take over the top spot and go on to pick up the win followed by Jason St. John, Gary Hensel Jr., Jerry Adkins, and Tyler Parsons.

The Bugs-R-Gone had a 5-car field with Rolly Heyder picking up the only heat race win, allowing him to start pole for the feature event. As the field came to the green, Heyder would remain out front picking up yet another win for the season. Rounding out the field was Travis Winterringer, Travis Hare, Dwayne Powell, and Tim Workman.

The Holmes Pest Control Street Stocks had a field of eighteen with Bob Chilcote, Kevin Potts, and Mike Lonas picking up heat race wins. With the line-up set, Chilcote would bring the field to the start. Fending off the challenge by Mike Lonas, Chilcote took the lead with Lonas a close second. Battling for the lead lap after lap, it was Mike Lonas who was able to edge out over Chilcote to pick up the win. Third went to Todd Swim, fourth to Gary Hensel Jr., and fifth to Kevin Potts.

Twelve cars made up the modlite field with Nick Crider and Nathon Loney picking up each of the heat wins. Setting the pace to the green, Crider and Loney would go side by side with Loney jumping out to the lead. With Crider challenging, Loney would retain the top spot and claim the win, rounding out the top five was Kyle Morehouse, Branden Shaw, and Tim Hawkins.

Rounding out the night with a 4-car field was the novice mini stock division. Setting the pace to the green was Samantha St. John. Taking the lead from outside pole and going on to pick up the win was Colten St. John with third going to John Maki and fourth to Colten Priebe.
