PRP Press Release – Portsmouth, OH, August 26, 2014
3 min readLess than a week removed from Fan Appreciation Night, Portsmouth Raceway Park patrons will now begin setting their sights on this Labor Day Weekend’s Pepsi 50 “River Days Rumble”.
The latter half of August has been and continues to be busy at PRP as the Portsmouth area’s center of speed is in the midst of a three-week stretch filled with marquee events.
The 20th Annual Fred Dillow Memorial took place on August 16th. The Body Shop Physical Therapy Fan Appreciation Night occurred on August 23rd and this coming Saturday The Lucas Oil Late Model Series will return for The Pepsi 50 “River Days Rumble”.
Still to come this season will be The Weaver’s Gas and Oil Bomber Shootout on September 13th, The Lemley Motorsports Mod Squad Spectacular on September 20th, and The 34th Annual Dirt Track World Championship October 17th, 18th, and 19th.
Crowds have been stellar in recent weeks and should only increase as the buildup to the DTWC continues, especially coupled with the close racing that has entertained fans in recent weeks.
The Dillow Memorial back on August 16th brought over 130 race teams to Portsmouth, and many of them walked away with gifts or cash prizes courtesy of the Dillow Family and the various sponsors of the event.
Wheelersburg’s R.J. Conley prevailed in the Late Model A-Main. Grayson, KY’s Jackie Boggs was the quick qualifier in The Bozo Bragdon Memorial “Just Give Me One Lap” Late Model Time Trials.
Minnesota’s Dan Ebert nipped Indiana’s Devin Gilpin at the stripe to win the Modified A-Main in one of the closest finishes ever at PRP. Coal Grove’s Matt Melvin took top honors in the Limited Late Model Feature. Maysville, KY’s Jeremie Bretz returned to winner’s circle in the Bombers.
PRP’s most recent event, last Saturday’s Body Shop Physical Therapy Fan Appreciation Night, brought many folks through the gate as fans were treated to an extremely-discounted, five-dollar general admission ticket. Fans in attendance got their money’s worth then some.
The ageless wonder of the dirt-racing world, Delmas Conley, took the checkers in the Giovanni’s Pizza Late Models. The 72-year-old from Wheelersburg captured his second PRP win of the season, as he fended off Jackson’s Jason Montgomery and West Portsmouth’s Ben Adkins.
In the RW Rental and Supplies Modifieds, South Point’s Todd Robinson padded his Wesbanco Points lead with his second PRP victory of the year. The defending track champ held off Pedro’s Brian Skaggs to get the win.
Fayetteville’s Mike Meyers returned to victory lane with a dominant performance in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Limited Late Model Feature, and in photo finish-type fashion, Frankfort’s Conard Newman just edged Stout’s Zack Pendleton to win the M & M Inflatables Bomber A-Main.
This Saturday The Lucas Oil Late Model Series will make its second visit of the season to PRP – the first since July 4th and the last before the DTWC in mid-October.
Heading into this weekend’s race Newport, Tennessee’s Jimmy Owens leads the Lucas Points.
Don O’Neal, Scott Bloomquist, Steve Francis, Eddie Carrier, Jr., Earl Pearson, Jr., John Blankenship, Jared Landers, Dennis Erb, Jr., and Jason Hughes make up the rest of the top 10.
Jackie Boggs won this race a year ago. Scott Bloomquist prevailed the last time The Lucas Series visited Portsmouth on The Fourth of July.
Also on this Saturday’s card will be RW Rental and Supplies Modifieds as well as M & M Inflatables Bombers. Racing will begin at 7:30.
