Davenport Dominates Earl Hill Memorial At Tyler County
4 min read(Middlebourne, WV) A huge crowd and a whopping 159 racers arrived at the ‘Bullring’ in honor of one of Tyler County Speedway’s favorite sons, the late great Earl Hill. With $10,000 dollars on the line in search of the coveted 26th Annual Earl Hill Memorial it was Georgia invader Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA who blistered the field in convincing fashion. Race fans were witness to one of the more dominating performances in ‘Bullring’ history as “Superman” would lap up to fourth place in a very stout field. Along with his $10,000 payday in the Super Late Model event, Davenport also claimed the FASTRAK Crate Late Model feature and by virtue notched his 17th and 18th overall victories of the 2014 season. The winning Kevin and Lee Roy Rumley-owned Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements/Rumley engine and has sponsorship from AES Racing, CV Racing Products, Dirtwrap, Hoosier Racing Tire, JRi Shocks, Mega Plumbing and VP Race Fuels. Following Davenport across the line were Jared Hawkins, Tim Dohm, Jacob Hawkins and Doug Drown. The veteran Bird Wilson would pick up another track championship in the Two Brothers Modified division.
In the tightest point battle of the night the Modlites would see a couple of grinding frontstretch crashes eliminate a couple of point chasers and race contenders. When the dust settled on the caution marred event it was Salem, WV’s Jeff Fornash picking up his 4th win in a row ahead of Ryan Baker, Troy Collins, Randy Kerns and AJ Spagnuolo. Mitch Ward would win a hard fought battle to claim his first Tyler County Speedway track championship in the Modlite division.
Middlebourne racer Mick Baker would garner his third win of the season in the EDGE Hotmod division after a four car tussle between Baker, early leader Travis Thomas, Chad Smith and Darren Glover that would see Baker use a high side pass to pick up the win. Baker would edge Chad Smith, Darren Glover, Brandon Weigle and Chris Thomas at the line. Chad Smith would repeat as the 2014 EDGE Hotmod track champion at Tyler County Speedway.
