Devin Moran Wins 4th Annual Richard Skidmore Memorial

On Saturday, day two of the Legends weekend with the 4th annual Richard Skidmore Memorial. Mike Benedum tripped the clock the fastest with a 14:88 mark. It would also garner him $200 courtesy of the Skidmore family. Delmas Conley and Billy Holbert notched prelim honors as Benedum snared the dash. Just as Friday night, Moran blasted to the front. Now with Benedum, Mason Zeigler, Cody Hardesty, and Gary Dalton in tow. The first caution waved on lap six, as Austin Hubbard drove a little too high into turns three and four and went over the embankment. Unlike Friday night, on Saturday the track was a whole different animal. Again, under the Elite Eight banner, the double file restarts were used, as the leader getting choice of inside or outside. Moran choose outside. Moran was showing the way but kept feeling the heat from Benedum. But Zeigler was on Benedum’s trunklid as well. On lap 18 Zeigler motored by Benedum and set his sites on Moran. Hardesty then began to pressure Benedum as the duo battled door to door, with Zeigler turning up the wick on Moran. Hardesty got by Benedum on lap 33, but it wouldn’t be a repeat of Friday. The final yellow came out on lap 42, bunching the field up letting Moran again choose outside. Moran driving the Custom Cutters / Donnie Moran Racing #99M took the second $5,000 check of the weekend. Zeigler would follow in second. Hardesty was third, Benedum fourth and Tim Senic fifth. The winners trophy was sponsored by Jimmy Henry Motorsports.
The Budweiser FASTRAK Late Models were again battling for $1,000, as it only took two tries to get under way, and on Saturday they did get their full distance in. Shawn Jett would guide the field from start to finish putting his Aluminum Service Center / Jett racing into victory lane for the second time in as many nights. And for the second straight night, Kyle Thomas crossed in the runnerup spot. Derek Rogers finished third. Fourth and fifth were Kris Southern and Joel Prosser.
On their second try at starting the Fast ‘N Friendly Modifieds had Deana Groves in her first visit of the season grabbing the point at the outset. Shawn Davis, Dave Defibaugh, Brent Trimble and Mike Murphy quickly filled in the top five. Defibaugh got back Davis on the restart of lap one and began to reel in Groves. Laps clicked off as Defibaugh closed in on Groves. On the last lap coming to the checkered flag, Defibaugh looked inside Groves but the first lady of Modifieds edged Defibaugh by three feet at the stripe. Davis, Murphy and Trimble were third through fifth.
The Miller’s Used Cars finale had Scott Bittinger piloting the Automotive Machine / Gold Digger #29 notching his fourth win. Bittinger lead flag to flag besting Brian Mitchell, John Tallman Jr., Ryan Watson and Anthony Arbogast.
Beau Newlon chased Mitch Ward circuit after circuit in the High Lines Oversize Load Escorting Mod Lites. After a restart of lap nine, Newlon pulled even with Ward. The front duo ran door to door until Newlon gained the advantage on lap 13. Newlon would drive on for his second win. Ward had to settle for second. Logan Hitt, crossed in third, Trey Watson was fourth, and Troy Gum was fifth.
Once again the Darren’s Pizza Shack Mini Wedges started the night off with a bang. Racing three and four wide, the young guns put on a whale of a show for the fans. With now less that three leaders swapping the front spot throughout. When it was over, Paije Bragg collected her fifth checkerboard. Garrett Jones, Braydon Beachler, Ryan Gum and Abby Watson completed the top five.
