Beckley Motor Speedway May 30 PR
4 min readMay 31, 2014- It was a beautiful late Spring evening at Beckley Motor Speedway. With all the work done to the track we saw some quick speeds from all the classes. Racers in Christ was in the house and did a lot of great things for us! They donated a lot of things to give away and gave away 50 free glow sticks to the kids, so we want to give them a big shout out for coming out! We also would like to thank all our Veterans who were there for coming out and letting us honor them for what they do for our country! As well as a big thanks to all Veterans for the service for our country! We also apologize for all the dust last night. We put 16 loads of water on it, but it just wasn’t enough with as hot as it was. We will get a handle on the dust issue and give our drivers and fans the best place possible to go race!
The late model class only saw 4 cars signed in as a couple of our regulars out of town. Setting fast time would be Wayne Hughes at a 13.916. Wayne would also win the heat race. The feature would turn out to be exciting even if we only had four cars. Hughes and Rick Williams would put on a heck of a show. Hughes would take his normal low line and Williams has been searching for the bottom for a couple weeks and finally found it. For the first 10 laps they ran side by side Hughes high and Williams low. Then Hughes dropped off a little bit and had two flat tires bringing out the caution. He went and changed them and came back out, but never could catch back up. Waterboy and Hughes then battled for 2nd for a few laps. It would end up being Rick Williams taking the win followed by Wayne Hughes, Jeff Lilly, and Tre Martin.
The open wheel modifieds had 9 cars sign in. Michael Moore would set fast time with a 15.604. Jason Cochran would win heat 1 and heat 2 would go to David Godfrey. Godfrey clearly had the quickest car in the feature. He led a lot of the early laps. Going into turn 1 about halfway in he slid up the track and fell back about four positions. The question was could he get back around everyone else. In the open wheel race most everyone had moved to the bottom. Godfrey stayed high. He picked them off one by one working his way back to the front. With about five to go Godfrey took the lead back and would go on to take the feature victory! His first career win! Pritchard once again worked and worked and clawed his way through the field moving from his 4th place starting spot into finishing 2nd. Rounding out the top 5 were Jason Cochran, Mike Honaker, and Donald Lambert.
The crate division saw 8 cars sign into square off and do battle. Tyler Cox would set fast time with a 14.653. He would also win the heat race in dominating fashion. The feature started out and Tyler Cox was called for a jump start for firing before the cone. As our rule has been all year if you jump you move back a row, so that would move Barley to the pole position. On the next attempt at a start both Kenny Rucker and Eddie Hambrick would get flat tires. Hambrick would get his changed and rejoin the tail of the field. The race resumed and Barley took the lead and never looked back. With Tyler Cox hot on his tail though the whole feature and side by side with him at several points. Aaron Barley would win followed by Tyler Cox in 2nd. Eddie Hambrick who was turning the fastest times would take 3rd as he ran out of time after having to work back through the field. Rounding out the top 5 were Henry Hornsby III and Tyler Blankenship.
The outlaw streets had 4 cars in the house ready to race. Kenny Meadows would win the heat race. He also won the feature in dominating fashion. Rounding out the top five in the feature were David Ferreira, Kevin Fitzwater, and Hope Lusher.
The street stocks brought 18 cars to put on a good show last night. Robert Richardson would win heat 1, heat 2 would go to Arnold Lambert Jr. and heat 3 to Bradley Richardson. The Green Team continued their street stock domination at Beckley as they have all year in the feature event. Robert Richardson would lead the whole thing to a victory. Bradley would bring home second followed by Ranse Cline. Rounding out the top 5 were Gentry Cline who started way back in 7th and Teddy Richardson.
The hornet class saw 5 cars sign in. DJ Critchley would win the heat race, but his feature woes would continue. In the feature he had two cautions which ended his night early. Brandon Adkins would win the feature event. Followed by Zachery Lilly and Patrick Raynes. Rounding out the top 5 were Jesse Raynes and DJ Critchley.
Again we thank everyone who came out last night, especially our Veterans. Remember this upcoming week, Friday, June 6th, we will be running the Mike Faykus Sr. Memorial race for the crates, plus all other regular classes!
