McGill Grabs Popular Win on Mystery Money Night
5 min read(Middlebourne, WV) 4/26/2014 It was another fast paced thrilling evening at the Tyler County Speedway as cagey veteran and forty year competitor at the ‘bullring’ Butch McGill of West Union, WV would grab a popular win on Mystery Money Night. Also grabbing wins were Chad Smith, Mitch Ward, Kyle Thomas, Bird Wilson, Bill Tennant and Brady Reed on a cool brisk night that seen the seven division 106 car program complete by 10:30.
Saturday Night was Mystery Money night, a unique event that seen the division with the highest car count compete for the Super Late Model purse of $1000 to win/ $200 to start and when the dust settled on registration it was the Hotmod division that would run for the big bucks. It was Sardis, Ohio’s Chad Smith driving the familiar black and camo 10s picking up his 3rd feature win in a row at the ‘bullring’ and grabbing the $1,000 payday. Trailing the dominant Smith across the stripe was Kenny Isner who netted a cool $800 for his 2nd place finish while 3rd running Brad Dickson would also cash in for $600 with Travis Thomas and Lou Ennis rounding out your top five.
In the J&R Excavating Super Late Model division presented by Midcap Land and Timber it was Butch McGill and Paul Wilmoth starting on the front row. At the onset it was the ‘Gambler’ Paul Wilmoth who would grab the early lead and appear headed to yet another Tyler County Speedway feature win. As Wilmoth set a torrid early pace blistering the high side of the speedway it was McGill who started to slowly reel the race long leader in, running the middle of the racey track. Once McGill would catch Wilmoth the lead duo would partake in a side by side dual for several laps before McGill would eventually squeeze by for the popular victory. Following McGill in the 1mc Jenkins Ford/High Lines Overload Escort/NAPA Auto Parts/Slicks Car Wash/ J&M Grafix Ford Mustang Rocket across the stripe was Wilmoth in his first night out in a retro looking B1, a charging Keith Barbara, the X machine of Dusty Hamrick and Donnie Dotson.
Once again in the Peoples Bank FASTRAK Late Model division it was Pennsboro, WV’s Kyle Thomas grabbing a hard fought victory. The sixth starting Thomas would vault to third at the drop of the green and patiently work his way to the lead passing race long leader Chad Green to claim his second win of the season in the highly competitive division. Green would settle for second while Robbie Scott from the back of the pack would win the war over Derek Rogers for third and Brian Baumberger would cross in fifth.
It was Mike ‘Bird’ Wilson of Sistersville, WV picking up his first win of the season in the Two Brothers Motorsports Modified divison. Wilson would lead the distance over JE Stalder, Lance Elson, Del Cunningham and Gerald Deitch. Wilson pilots the unsponsored blue #20 Two Brothers Motorsports entry.
In the Modlite division it was Shinnston, WV’s Mitch Ward grabbing a popular win. Ward would win a race long battle with Jeff Fornash to claim his first win of the season after being so close all year. Ward pilots the 862 Pro/Eliminator sponsored by Throw n Dirt, Ward Welding and Fabrication, Hitt Enterprises, Hardrock modlite. Rounding out the top five were Fornash, Brandon Fluharty, a fast closing Braden Dillinger and Matt Ward.
A new winner would emerge in the FWD 4 Cylinder division as it was Colliers, WV’s Bill Tennant aboard the #2 Cavalier sponsored by B&J Performance and BJP Racing. Grabbing his seasons first win would not be easy for Tennant as he had to hold off a pesky Donnie Wamsley as the two time winner would look high low and in between for a way around but it was Tennant holding off all challenges to grab the victory. Rounding out the top five behind Tennant and Wamsley were John Sinnett, the ‘birdman’ Robert Frohnapfel and Jason Frazier.
Picking up his second win of the season in the JJK Mineral MWRA Mini Wedge division was Brady Reed driving the #15 machine. Following Reed across the stripe was last weeks winner Kylie Cross, and a hard charging Garrett Jones.
