Hartford, OH March 26, 2014 Summit Racing Equipment will be returning in 2014 as a divisional sponsor for the fourth consecutive season at Sharon Speedway. Summit presented the Econo Mod division in 2011 and moved over to the Modified division in 2012 and will continue presenting the division for the upcoming season. Summit has stepped up in an even greater role in 2014 and will present a nightly hard charger award for the (E) Modified, Stock Car, and Econo Mod divisions.
At each weekly “Steel Valley Thunder” event during the 85th anniversary season, the driver that advances the most positions from his or her starting spot to his or her finishing position in each of the three divisions will receive a $25 gift card good for any purchase at the nearby nationally-based Tallmadge, Ohio company. In the event of more than one driver advancing the same number of positions, the tie will be broken by the highest finishing driver.
“We can’t thank Summit Racing Equipment and Chuck Strom enough for their support,” stated fifth year GM Dave Willoughby. “It’s great to have a national company like Summit involved and to continue to increase their participation at the speedway. This along with Hovis Auto & Truck Supply’s six nightly pit pass giveaways and our free driver pit pass night will be great new weekly programs for our upcoming 85th anniversary season.”
The program will get underway when the 2014 season officially kicks off on Saturday, April 19. In addition to the Summit Racing Equipment Modifieds, Gibson Insurance Agency Stock Cars, and the HTMA/Precise Racing Products Econo Mods, the Hovis Auto & Truck Supply DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, Barris Supply RUSH Late Models, and the Deforest Used Parts Mini Stocks will also be on the card.
Summit Racing Equipment is the world’s largest mail order automotive performance equipment company, with thousands of performance parts, aftermarket accessories, tools and garage equipment, collectibles, and stock replacement parts to choose from. The company stocks parts for cars (race, street, daily driver) and trucks/SUVs (street, performance, off-road).
Summit Racing Equipment began in 1968, as a part-time, one-person business, and in 1969 opened its first store in Akron, Ohio. In 1992, the company moved its headquarters to a larger facility in Tallmadge, Ohio with a larger Retail Store and Distribution Center, the company expanded its product offering to include truck, SUV, and Jeep-specific parts. In 1998, Summit opened a second Retail Store and Distribution Center in Sparks, Nevada. That location enabled customers in the western United States to receive parts in one to two days via ground shipping. To keep up with the high demand for performance and styling parts, the company doubled the size of its facility in 1999. With the new space, Summit could stock millions of parts from hundreds of manufacturers.
In 2002, the doors of Summit Racing Equipment’s new 25,000-square-foot Retail Super Store opened in Tallmadge, Ohio. The store is a destination for enthusiasts, with thousands of parts on display, legendary vehicles like Don Garlits’ Swamp Rat 32, plus customer-built vehicles on display. A third location, in McDonough, Georgia, opened in 2006. That location solidified the company’s ability to ship throughout most of the United States within 1-2 days via ground shipping.
