2014 Modifieds Season Preview

WHEELERSBURG, OH-2013 was a banner year for the Modified division at Southern Ohio Speedway will strong car counts, great racing, lots of different winners, and a second consecutive track championship for Lucasville, Ohio driver Jeremy Rayburn. 2014 is set to be another great year for the Modified division at SOS.

The Modifieds will be on the racing card for a total of 13 races with the possibility of more shows in the September and October TBA’s. Of those 13 races, 8 of those shows will pay $600 to win, four will be $800 to win specials, and the May 4th Southern 100 show will pay $1,000 to win. All shows will pay a minimum of $100 to start with a good payback on through the field. The 13 Modified shows are expected to produce some incredible racing.

The big story in 2014 for the Modified division will be can Jeremy Rayburn claim his third straight Modified track championship? Rayburn has won the past two Modified track championships in defining fashion by being the wins leader in the class those two seasons. In fact, Rayburn is the winningest driver in SOS modern-era history with 10 wins. Rayburn has held off some of the strongest drivers in the region to claim the past two track championships.

While Rayburn looks to claim his third consecutive track championship, he will have many other drivers looking to end his streak and become the 2014 track champion. One of those drivers will be Pedro, Ohio’s Brian Skaggs who had a breakout season last year. Skaggs claimed two wins on the season (both special event races) on his way to a second place points finish. Veteran drivers Doug Adkins and Todd Robinson will also be drivers to watch for the 2014 track championship. Those two finished third and fourth respectively in points last year and were contenders for the win each week. Adkins had two wins on the season while Robinson had one win.

Another storyline to watch this season will be Joey Kramer’s win streak. The Hanover, Indiana driver only races at SOS 3-4 times each season because of the distance the track is away from him but when he comes to race at SOS, he usually wins. In fact, Kramer has won all but one Modified race he has competed in at SOS. That was a $3,000 to win race in 2011 where he finished second to former World 100 winner Bart Hartman. Kramer’s win streak is currently at six. Can somebody beat Kramer at SOS in 2014?

A great season is on tap in the Modified division this season. It will all get underway on Friday, April 4th Opening Night races which will pay Modifieds $800 to win.
