3 min readWHEELERSBURG, OH-The Southern Ohio Speedway is happy to announce that weekly racing will be returning to the track for the 2014 season. With the return of weekly racing will come a revamped weekly program featuring cheaper admission prices and a new, cost effective rules package for the tracks weekly Late Model division.
In 2014, the Weekly Racing Series (WRS) Late Models will be the weekly Late Model class at the track. The WRS Late Models will feature a cost effective rules package. All cars in the WRS Late Model division must run a steel block. Aluminum heads are legal. Crate engines with a steel block are also legal. The WRS Late Models will run a tire rule that is open on the front but requires a Hoosier 1300 or harder or American Racer 44 or harder on the rear tires. Rear tires must punch 40 prior to qualifying and heat races. WRS Late Models will have a 2,300 pound weight rule. Body and safety rules will be standard Lucas Oil Late Model Series and World of Outlaws Late Model Series rules. The 2014 WRS Late Model weekly payout is posted on the Payout page of the tracks website.
“We are really excited about the WRS Late Model division”, stated SOS co-promoter T. J. Layne. ”As has been proven with our GCP Engines Sport Mod division and the new A only tire rule last year in the Modifieds, finding a way to provide cost effective racing is the key to having a thriving weekly racing program. With this rules package, we feel like we will be able to have an affordable, weekly Late Model class that will produce strong car counts and great racing. This is a class that the average person can afford to get into and be competitive in.”
The WRS Late Models, Modifieds, GCP Engines Sport Mods, Pure Stocks, and Enduros will make up the weekly racing card in 2014. The open, Super Late Models will still be on the racing card several times in 2014 for all of the traditional special event races. SOS officials are setting the schedule up to have a Super Late Model special the first Friday of every month. The track also still plans on scheduling 410 Sprint Car events.
As part of the tracks effort to revamp the weekly racing program, adult general admission prices to all weekly shows in 2014 has been dropped to $10. General admission for teens ages 13-16 is $5, $2 for ages 7-12, and free for ages 6 and under. Family friendly pit pass pricing will still be in place in 2014 with pit passes $25 for ages 13 and up, $15 for ages 7-12, and free for ages 6 and under. The track is also exploring earlier start times, increased fan promotions, and different formats to help revamp the weekly racing program for 2014. Additional details on that will be announced shortly.
The track is currently working on finalizing the 2014 schedule and plans on having it released before Christmas. The 2014 schedule will feature more races on it than any other schedule we have put out in the past. Fans can expect to see an excellent mix of high quality, special event races and an increased focus on weekly racing. The season will get underway on Saturday, March 8th with the “1st Annual Cabin Fever Bash Enduro” followed by Test N’ Tunes on Saturday, March 22nd and Saturday, March 29th. The 2014 season will officially get underway with “Opening Night” on Friday, April 4th. A Super Late Model special will be on the Opening Night card. Additional details to be released shortly.
