4 min readWHEELERSBURG, OH-The Southern Ohio Speedway is honored to host the “5th Annual Black Jack & Farley Boggs Memorial Race” that will take place this Saturday, October 5th. The racing card will feature Late Models-$3,000 to win, Modifieds-$800 to win, GCP Engines Sport Mods presented by Tomahawk Race Cars, Pure Stocks, and Enduros.
In Honor of Black Jack & Farley Boggs
The Boggs name is one of the biggest names in the entire sp\ort of Dirt Late Model racing. Farley Boggs, the older brother of Jack and Randy Boggs, got the brothers started in racing and the rest as they say is history. Jack Boggs and Randy Boggs are both winners of the World 100, making them the only brothers to both win on the sports biggest stage. Both Jack and Randy Boggs are also two time winners of the Southern 100. Jackie Boggs, son of “Black Jack”, is also a two time Southern 100 winner, Southern 50 winner, Southern Showdown winner, and has more Late Model feature wins in the SOS modern era than any other driver.
Event History
The Black Jack and Farley Boggs Memorial Race originated at the Willard Speedway in Willard, Kentucky in the year 2008. With the exception of the year 2011, the race has been held every season since. Jackie Boggs has won every Black Jack and Farley Boggs Memorial Race. 2013 marks the first time that the event has been held at the Southern Ohio Speedway.
Late Model Preview
An incredible show is expected on Saturday in the Late Model division as drivers will be chasing after the $3,000 top prize and the prestige of being a Black Jack & Farley Boggs Memorial Race winner. Jackie Boggs is carrying a lot of momentum into the event with feature wins in three high profile events at other tracks in the region. 2013 track champion R. J. Conley has also been carrying a lot of momentum every since his win in the “Buckeye 30″ back on July 26th. Josh McGuire won the last Late Model race held at SOS, the “Hall of Fame Classic” and finished second in last seasons Black Jack & Farley Boggs Memorial. SOS Hall of Famer Delmas Conley has two consecutive second place finishes at SOS. Those drivers along with many more will all be strong contenders in Saturday’s race.
2013 Late Model feature winners include R. J. Conley (2), Jackie Boggs (2), Danial Kattine, Jason Montgomery, Steve Francis, Doug Drown, Jared Hawkins, and Josh McGuire.
Modified Preview
The Black Jack & Farley Boggs Memorial race is also a prestigious event for the Modified division. The Modifieds will compete for an $800 top prize. Last season, Jody Puckett took the win in this event. The Modified action has been intense at SOS this season as for the second year in a row, Jeremy Rayburn has clinched the SOS Modified track championship. It is sure to be a great show on Saturday in the Modified division.
GCP Engines Sport Mods presented by Tomahawk Race Cars Preview
An exciting championship battle in the Sport Mod division concluded last Saturday with Danny Hamilton taking his fourth feature win on the season and clinching the track championship in the process. It has been a great season in the Sport Mod division with lots of different winners and lots of great racing. This year will be the second season that the Sport Mod division has been a par tof the Black Jack & Farley Boggs Memorial. More exciting racing in the Sport Mods is expected Saturday.
Pure Stock Preview
Last Saturday Lamar Murdock became the first driver outside of Barry Brisker to take a feature win in the Pure Stocks. Brisker, the 2013 Pure Stock track champion, put Ron Williams in his car last week as Williams came home with a strong second place finish. While the car counts haven’t been the greatest in the class this year, the racing action has been exciting.
Enduro Preview
This week a new Enduro format will be in place to make the Enduros easier to score and provide make them more entertaining for the fans and drivers. Enduros will now run 10 minutes and after 10 minutes, the cars that are remaining will battle it out in a 6 lap dash for the win. The purse will remain the same at $150 to win, $75 for second, and $50 for third.

Times and Admission Prices
Gates will open on Saturday at 2:00 pm with hot laps starting the nights action at 5:00 pm. General admission is $15 for ages 17 and up, $8 for ages 13-16, $2 for ages 7-12, and free for ages 6 and under.
