SOS Preview: August 2nd, 3rd Annual Hall of Fame Classic

WHEELERSBURG, OH-It will be a very special night of racing at the Southern Ohio Speedway on Friday, August 2nd for the “3rd Annual Hall of Fame Classic”. The racing card will feature Late Models-$3,000 to win, Modifieds-$800 to win, GCP Engines Sport Mods presented by Tomahawk Race Cars, Pure Stocks, and Enduros. In addition to the action packed racing card, we will have the 2013 SOS Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

2013 Southern Ohio Speedway Hall of Fame Inductions
The third class will enter the Southern Ohio Speedway Hall of Fame on Friday. We will induct Dan Aldridge, Randy Boggs, Eddie Carrier Sr., and Mike Mougey into the SOS Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place following time trials.

“Dangerous” Dan Aldridge was a top runner at Southern Ohio Speedway for many years in the Late Model division. Randy Boggs is a two time Southern 100 champion and multiple time feature winner at SOS. Eddie Carrier Sr. was a top runner at SOS for many years and multiple time feature winner in the Late Model division. Mike Mougey was the winner of the first Modified race held at SOS and a longtime competitor in the Late Model division.

Late Model Preview
Friday’s “3rd Annual Hall of Fame Classic” will pay $3,000 to win for the Late Model division. This will be the final race of the SOS spring/summer schedule for the Late Models as track officials are currently working on a fall schedule. R. J. Conley clinched the Late Model track championship last week and took the $3,000 win in the “Buckeye 30.” Counting his wins at Portsmouth Raceway Park and Brushcreek Motorsports Complex, Conley will be looking for his fifth win in a row on Friday. His father, Delmas Conley, is also carrying a lot of momentum into Friday as he is coming off of two consecutive top five finishes, including a second place finish in the Buckeye 30. Jackie Boggs was the winner of the first two Hall of Fame Classics and was leading last Friday before having electrical issues.

The story this season has been about the incredible racing that has been seen in the Late Model division. This was the case once again last Friday as the Late Model feature saw three lead changes. It is expected to be another incredible show on Friday.

Modified Preview
Modifieds will once again race for $800 to win this Friday. Last Friday, Hanover, Indiana driver Joey Kramer held off Jeremy Rayburn in what was an absolutely incredible race. Rayburn, the current SOS points leader and defending track champion, showed exactly why he is in that position last week as he came from the last starting position to finish second. 2011 SOS Modified track champion Adam Colley also put up a strong run last week finishing fourth while Brian Whiteman was strong finishing third. Ironton, Ohio’s Greg Thompson finished fifth. It is expected to be a great show Friday in the Modified division.

GCP Engines Sport Mods presented by Tomahawk Race Cars Preview
History was made last week in the Sport Mod division when 14 year old Colten Wright became the youngest feature winner in track history. For Wright, the win had been several weeks in the making as he had contended for the win the past two races before having bad luck hit. Current points leader Danny Hamilton showed last week why he is in that position as he came from almost last to charge up to a third place finish in the 15 lap feature. So far six different drivers have visited victory lane in the Sport Mod division in nine races. Will we see a seventh different winner on Friday?

Pure Stocks
The Pure Stock class keeps growing as we were up to 5 cars last Friday. Barry Brisker won what was a great race between him and the #26 machine of Eric Scalf. Scalf has been close to visiting victory lane the past several races. Could he get his first career win on Friday?

Enduros
Veteran racer Phil Cox has won the first two races in the weekly Enduro class. Last weeks Enduro was wild and wacky and features a good field of 16 cars. What will happen in this Friday’s Enduro? Can Phil Cox get his third win in a row?
