Burgess, Rayburn, Hamilton, Perdue, Johnson and Taylor Conquer Brushcreek
4 min read(Peebles, OH) A good group of fans were treated to a great night of racing Saturday night at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex. Saturday was the final Late Model race before the $5,000 to win Late Model race Steven Partin’s Hidden Gem on Wednesday July 17th. All the Late Model guys were working hard to make final adjustments before the UMP Summer Nationals event. The full night of racing also included the second straight week for the Southern Ohio Lightning Mini-Sprints at Brushcreek Motorsports. It was a beautiful evening for racing at “The Creek”.
The fans were treated to Crazy Compacts first as they hit the Track. Randy Johnson and Jip Howard started on the front row. Jip had just bought his #82 car the previous week at the drivers meeting and this week was running up front looking for his first win. At the drop of the green Jip tried jump around Randy Johnson. Johnson wasnt giving up easy and he battled back strong. Randy Johnson eventually pulled out to a lead and never looked back. Randy Johnson won his third straight feature followed by Jip Howard, Jesse Mick, Nathan Johnson and Tim Howard.
The Southern Ohio Lightning Mini-Sprints were back for another week of racing action. Chris Smalley was last weeks winner but this week it was a different story. Ricky Taylor dominated the entire show winning with ease for his first win at Brushcreek. Folowing Taylor was Chris Smalley, Jean Wills, Chris Hawk and Mark Smith. Keep checking back in as we are working to secure more dates with the Southern Ohio Lightning Mini-Sprints.
The PF2 Trucking Sport Mods were on track next. Daniel Hamilton was looking to make it two in a row on saturday. From the drop of the green Hamilton never looked back. Daniel Hamilton won his second straight feature with little issues. Following Hamilton across the line was Chris Shelton, Brian Thornberry (PF2 Trucking Quality Driver Employment Program Tire Winner), Kyle Boggs and Derek Richmond.
The Modifieds were up after the Sport Mods. Dave Jamison and Jeremy Rayburn were heat race winners putting them on the front row for the feature event. In 2012 Dave Jamison and Jeremy Rayburn always put on good shows and it was expected to be the same as Rayburn returned to BMC for the first time in 2013 Saturday. At the wave of the green Rayburn jumped out early forcing Dave Jamison to sit back and follow. Several cautions gave Jamison the chance to pounce on Rayburn but nothing came to be. Jeremy Rayburn became the 4th different winner in 4 races this season at Brushcreek! Dave Jamison, Shaun Scott, Rusty Hawes and Jimmy Stricker rounded out the top 5.
The Late Model division saw a good race and a young driver get his first win. Rob Starkey started up front and took off early. 17 Year old Ethan Burgess started to chase Starkey down as the race progressed. Halfway through the 20 Lap A-Main Ethan Burgess has caught up to Starkey and started to make the pass. In turns three and four Ethan Burgess finally found the room to the inside and went for the pass. As Burgess made the pass, Starkey tried to power back by and ended up spinning to the inside of the track. After this, Burgess had no trouble rolling to the first win of his young career. In victory lane Ethan said “It Feels Awesome” when asked about his first win ever. Following the youngster were Mark Morrison, Paul Moore, Rob Starkey and Chris Shannon.
The Ohio Valley Roofers Legend Cars were the final class of the night. Steven Partin and Jerren Perdue lead the field to the green flag. Partin dove to the lead quickly but before they could get back to the front stretch Jerren Perdue had snuck back by. Steven Partin worked high and low trying to find anything that could propel him around the #91 car. On the final turn of the last lap Partin made one last bid for the win by diving low, using the momentum off the banking. Steven Partin came up short of the win for the second week in a row. Jerren Perdue begins a hot streak winning two in a row. Following Perdue and Partin were Josh Francis, Derek Minshew and Steve Duderstadt.
