Jonathan Davenport Comes From 21st To Win Shawn “Sheetz” McGarvey Memorial

STRONGSTOWN, PA (August 6, 2017) – Superman Jonathan Davenport, Blairsville, GA, came from the 21st starting spot to win the 4th Annual Shawn “Sheetz” mcGarvey Memorial for the Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Models while Justin Wagaman made his first visit a winning one in the 20-lap DM Craig Fabrication & Welding Service 4 Cylinder Special. Corey Neal earned his first-ever Dog Hollow victory in the Lias Tire CARS Crate Late Models. Nate Smith (358 Semi Lates), Levi Spinneweber (Super 6 Late Models) and Amber Mills (AMSOIL Pure Stocks) were all repeat winners Sunday night at Dog Hollow Speedway.

The Main Event of the night was the 4th Annual Shawn “Sheetz” mcGarvey Memorial for the Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Models. The 45-lap event paid $4000 to winner Jonathan Davenport. As the race started it was Waylon Wagner assuming the initial lead. Wagner held the top spot through numerous early cautions as Davenport, Alex Ferree and Ryan Montgomery all were working through the field. By lap 23 Davenport worked his way to second and took the lead on a laps 25 restart. From there the Georgia driver drove away from the field. A few laps later Wagner dropped out ending his good run. The battle for second was between Michael Lake and Kyle Hardy as the duo swapped positions. Hardy took the runnerup spot for good on lap 38. Following Davenport and Hardy across the line were Michael Lake, Alex Ferree (from 19th) and Robbie Black. Sixth through tenth were Devin Friese, Rance Garlock, Dave Blazavich, Mike Altobelli and Andy Fries. Heat winners were Andrew Wylie, Mason Zeigler and Billy Dickson. Alex Ferree won the B-Main.

The DM Craig Fabrication & Welding Service 4 Cylinders ran a 20-lap special. Chuck Dizzle led the first two laps before Noah Swank took over the lead. Swank led through many cautions and led with just one lap to go. He was getting pressure from first time visitor Justin Wagaman. Wagaman and Swank were side by side the final two laps thrilling the crowd. Wagman out dragged Swank from turn four to the flagstand to garner the win in his first time at DHS. Swank was second over Josh Frantz, Mike Phillipson, Tanner Lansberry, Adam Gee, Marc Whetstone, Jr., Lance Marshall, Robert Lydic and Brooks Kaufman. Jack Theys, Frantz and John Costa were the heat winners.

Amber Mills led all 15 laps for her third checkered flag of the season in the AMSOIL Pure Stocks. Amber was chased by current point leader Kyle Smith, Jr. won held on for second followed by Duke Davidson, Kevin Vanamburg, Al Rishel, Josh Ferry, Mike Benton, Dave Rasmussen, Mike Ball and Ron Benton. Davidson and Brad Benton won the qualifying heats.

The Lias Tire CARS Crate Late Models saw a slim field on Sunday’s rain date. Dave Lee was looking to get the gremlins off his back as he led the first four laps before spinning in turn two. This gave the lead to Trade City’s Corey Neal. Neal drove a flawless race the final 16 laps to get his first Dog Hollow victory. Rounding out the field were Mike Laughard, Dave Lee, Joe Moyer, Clate Copeman, Jonathan Stockdale, Colin Casale, Chris Frank and Tim Storm. Moyer won the lone heat.

Jon Lee led the opening lap of the 358 Semi Late feature. Lee was quickly replaced by heat winner Nate Smit,h who then raced off for win number 4 on the season. Jarid Ivory placed second over Dan Ferry, Jr., Gary Stahl (Joe Brawley 21), Jason Mullen, Jeff Fochler, Todd English, Carrisa Fedesco, Shane Nihart and Jon Lee.

In the Super 6 Late Models Butler’s Levi Spinneweber led all but one lap to pickup his third win of the season. Mike Spinneweber, Frank McFeaters, Ed Dunkel and Jim Thompson were the top five. Levi also won the heat.
