Mercer Chiller Thriller Saturday

3 min read

(Mercer, PA March 20, 2017): The extended forecast for Mercer Raceway Park calls for warmer temperatures, so that means things will heat up on the racetrack for the first time in the 2017 season!

On Saturday, March 25, the BRP Modified Tour will invade for the first of two appearances. The Chiller Thriller will pit the ground-pounding Big Block Mods against their cousins, the 358 Modifieds that thrill the Mercer faithful during Saturday Night Live! racing programs. Then, Sunday, March 26, the track will present the Jack Frost Enduro and Snow Flake 25.

The Modified Tour will bring in the region’s top name drivers, like multi-time champion Rex King, Sr., and his son, Cooter, or Rex Jr., as he is formally known. Defending series champion Erick Rudolph is expected to tow down from his western New York home. Dave Murdick, Kevin Bolland, Mark Frankhouser, and many more will be on hand.

Representing the track’s 358 Mods will be fan favorites like Jimmy Holden, Lonnie Riggs, and Kyle Fink. Jeff Schaffer, Jr. and his dad, Jeff Sr., are expected, along with Sid Unverzagt, Jr., Kevin Green, J.R. McGinley, and Kevin Hoffman! Some of those racers have Big Blocks at their disposal, too, so a big question will be what powerplant will be sitting between the frame rails when they check in!

Joining the Modifieds will be the an unsanctioned race for the Crate Late Models, Open Stocks, and the UEMS e-Mods!

Gates will open for the Chiller Thriller at 4:00 for the Pits and for the spectators.

Ticket prices will be as follows for this special event: adults $17, seniors (60+) $15, and students (ages 9-15) $7. Children (8 and under) will be free. The Family Pass will be available at $35, and that will apply for two adults and up to four minor children of any age. Pit Passes will also be $35.

For the Jack Frost and Snow Flake 25, on Sunday, pit gates will open at 11 and racing will commence at noon, with an open practice session. The practice session will be available for all cars in any class. The Snow Flake 25 for Mini Stocks will take to the track at about 2:30, with the Jack Frost to follow.

The Sunday program will have the following prices applied: adults $13, seniors (60+) $11, and students (ages 9-15) $5. Children (8 and under) will be free. The Family Pass will be available at $28, and that will apply for two adults and up to four minor children of any age. Pit Passes will be $30.

There will be no two-day ticket packages offered.

If the weekend should fall to inclement weather, the same programs and formats will be repeated on April 1 and 2.
