Legendary Hilltop Speedway officials are excited to announce that the track will play host to the Inaugural Gene Johnson Memorial on May 20th 2016. The event will serve as a remembrance and celebration of one of the most prominent and admired figures in the area racing scene, Gene Johnson who passed away in late 2015. While many race fans today remember Gene Johnson as the father of 6 time AMRA Champion Kenny Johnson, Gene’s place in the racing community dates back to the days when Gene was a fierce competitor behind the wheel, who did battle on tracks all across the Ohio Valley region throughout his long and successful career.

The Inaugural Gene Johnson Memorial race plans to be a very special event that will truly celebrate Gene’s lifelong love of racing. It is both the track staff and Johnson family’s intention to ensure that this race will be held the way Gene would had wanted it. Highlighted by discounted General/Pit admission rates and trophies for the top finishers in each class along with elevated starting payouts, the event is sure to be a hit amongst both fans and competitors. The evening will feature racing in all regular classes and will include various tributes to Gene’s legacy along with some special surprises for the fans in attendance.

Fans and teams are encouraged to stay tuned to Legendary Hilltop’s various social media sites for more information as the event nears. With the race taking place in late May, the Gene Johnson Memorial race will likely also serve as one of the final tune ups for the highly anticipated $10,000 to WIN “River City Showdown” which will only add more excitement to this special event!
