Wilmoth Returns, Trimble Again, Judy First Career At Elkins

(Kerens, W.V. 08-07-15) Another full hillside enjoyed racing Friday night at the Elkins Raceway.
The Bilstein STARS Series was the highlight as the Miller’s Used Cars Mod Lites
saw a down to the wire finish. Jeff Teeters grabbed the point at the drop of the green with Mitch Ward, John Cogar, Logan Hitt and D Jay Miller in tow. Four yellows slowed action in the first nine circuits. By lap 12, Miller had worked his way to second behind Teeters and began pressure. Miller looked high and low but couldn’t quite get the grip. On lap 17 the front duo made contact in turn one, Miller drove around the outside for the lead and eventual win. Teeters, Hitt, Dean Ward and Mitch Ward rounded out the top five.
In the Jenkins Ford Super Late Models, a front row fans have been waiting on all season. Paul and Steve Wilmoth shared the pole and outside bringing the field to green. Although somewhat anti – climatic, Paul in his Bloomquist Racecar / Octane Race Products ‪#‎B1‬ comfortably lead flag to flag in the caution free 25 lapper. Steve chased his older brother but had to settle for second. Robbie Scott, Cody Hardesty and Bob Gordon completed the
top five.
On the third try at green, the Budweiser FASTRAK Late Models got under way. Garrett Paugh jumped to the lead with Jason Defibaugh, Chad Green, Troy Frazier and Daniel Hill filling in the top five. After a quick yellow, the race stayed green until lap 10 when Frazier had a flat left rear tire. Paugh driving the K N P trucking / Roy’s RV Superb Center #03 stayed in command to collect his second checkerboard. Defibaugh crossed in second but was disqualified in post race inspection. Green pulled out with three laps to go with powering steering problems. Making the rest of the top five, Daniel Hill, Billy Beachler, Tyler Stutler and Kris Southern.
The Performance Modifieds was again dominated by Brent Trimble. By lap five the H & R Block / BB & T Auto Crushers ‪#‎1B‬ had a full straight away cushion. He grabbed his tenth checkerboard of the season. Randy Bohan finished a distant second. Mike Murphy, Dave Defibaugh ,James Nelson were third trough fifth.
Anthony Arbogast took the point at the outset of the West Virginia Pools Street Stocks with Chad Judy, Josh Mullenax, John Tallman Jr., and Jamie Keene in the top five. On the fourth circuit, Arbogast got too high in turn four, giving Judy the front spot. Tallman would motor his way to second and apply some pressure to Judy, but the C & K Trucking sponsored #10 scored his first win. Tallman, Keene, Rick Kincely, and Arbogast were second through fifth.
After yet another edge of your seat BCT Construction Mini Mod A Group feature, Mitch Thomas in his Iron Horse Logging / New England Truss & Joist Service #97 emerged with his second checkerboard. Abby Watson, Garrett Jones, Paije Bragg and Luke Hyre were the rest of the top five.
In the BCT Construction B Group, Pressley Wilt in the Extreme Plastic / Shalewater Solutions #99 was able to hold off Landon Marple for her fourth first place trophy. Blake Runyon, Kelsey Tincher,and Madison Taylor were third through fifth.
This week at the Elkins Raceway will be a very special Friday night. The inaugural induction of the Elkins Raceway Wall of Fame. Many deserving names have been submitted, but only ten names have been chosen for the first class.
