Tyler Cox Takes The Mike Faykus Sr Memorial At Beckley

June 7th, 2014- Finally a beautiful night for racing at Beckley Motor Speedway. The temperatures were warm and the sun was out. The track was in excellent shape as we went to battle to honor Mike Faykus Sr. on the 6th month, the 6th day.

The FASTRAK Crates were headlining the event with the $1,506 to win Mike Faykus Sr. Memorial. 13 cars signed in to do battle in this event. Tyler Cox would win qualifying at at 14.622. Aaron Barley would win the first heat race and TJ Salango would win the second heat. The feature was one for the ages. TJ Salango led most of the race until around lap 18. During that time Tyler Cox slowly worked his way through the field. On lap 18 Tyler took the lead from Salango and never looked back to win the Mike Faykus Sr. Memorial. Tyler moved up from his 5th starting spot to win. Ricky Williams who started 4th finished 2nd and Salango took 3rd. Rounding out the top 5 were Aaron Barley and Mike Faykus Jr.

The Open Wheel Modifieds had 8 cars sign in. Tate Hughes was back on top of qualifying with a 14.945. The heat races went to Tate Hughes and Mike Duncan. Mike started out dominating the feature before having a flat tire and having to go to the tail after the tire change. Tate Hughes then took the lead and never looked back going on to win the feature. 2nd went to Michael Moore who started back in 5th spot. Rounding out the top five were Bill Pritchard, Mike Duncan (who came back from the tail), and Jeff Maxwell.

The Outlaw Street cars only had two cars and ran only a feature. Kevin Fitzwater led all the laps and won over Hope Lusher who finished 2nd.

The Street Stocks had 10 cars sign in. Heat 1 went to the green team’s Robert Richardson and heat two went to Robert Modley II. The feature once again saw Green Team Domination. As they took all of the top three spots! Robert Richardson won followed by Brad Richardson and “Scooby” Steve Adkins. 4th went to the 8th place starter Johnny GIbson and 5th to James Lilly.

The Hornets had 5 cars sign in. The heat race went to Brandon Adkins who charged late to beat DJ Critchley. The feature went to Brandon Adkins as well followed by DJ Critchley. Rounding out the top 5 were Jesse Raynes, Austin Gibson, and Patrick Raynes.

Remember this coming Friday June 13th will include a special Super Late Model Race paying $1,500 to win and $175 to start and Street Stock race paying $500 to win and $75 to start! We’ll see you at the track this Friday June 13th!!!
